UP power

An SD60 would lead an intermodal train occasionally. This one was leaving Sparks NV in April 2004.

Same train different day. January 2006.

Greg,Nice pictures..UP locomotives are so common on the NS the local fans doesn't raise a eyebrow as they roll by.

Thanks guys. I use an HP 912. It is an older camera. We bought it in 2001 IIRC. I've worn the paint off some of the corners I've used it so much. It has been a rugged camera too. You guys don't see all the images I discard :D to present the few here I do.

Cheers,
Greg

Strange.. that small "UP" by the number. Then I notice the different shade of yellow around that. It looks like the engine was patched to UP, and then the rest was repainted, leaving the patch. So, does that mean UP was using the same style of patching in the late 80s-early 90s that it still uses? I've never seen a shot of an MKT patch job.

It was painted yellow and IIRC it was a 25## number when it was renumbered from the MKT number. Then it was renumbered when the rebuilt GP40's were coming on line as GP38-3's so they used a vinyl patch.

Greg

Thanks Triplex. Fuzzy memory. :D The SD60's got some vinyl patches too when the C44ACCTE's started getting numbered into the 6000 series. UP really likes the vinyl patches.

Gotta love those snoot nosed SD40-2's in armour yellow. My favorite locomotives of all time. Hey, was that Z train one of EP's?

Nice pics!!! I was up in Sparks earlier this year and saw the Western Pacific Heritage unit, unfortunatley I did not have my camera with me. I work for Kinder Morgan which owns and operates the storage tanks just to the North of that UP yard. I am having two heritage units made for me I will try to post a picture once its complete.
