First of all I have to apologize for my bad english. I'm from Austria and I just started with building paper models. Below you can see my first try...Uhu's Enterprise! Not so clean but I think for the first time it's ok.

I figured out the access to Uhu's library long time ago but so far I hadn't enough time to start with one of his models because of my time-consuming work as a grafik designer.

Fortunately I was able to download some of his models including the construction manuals before he closed his side end of last year. I haven't found the new passwords yet but I'm still trying :-)

By the way...many thanks to Uhu for your wonderful works. As an old scifi fan (especially the classic movies) I fell in love immediately with your incredible detailed models. Please go on with your work...

How about some models in the future from this movies/series? :thumb:

I was little bit too fast. There'a already another post of mine in the Uhu appreciation thread. Sorry.

Another question...is your forum only based on card models or is there also a thread for resin or vinyl models? Never mind if not...I'm just asking before I post something that doesn't belong here.
 
Welcome ClassX! The Enterprise looks good! Much better than my first models, of course it looks like you've avoided my first big mistake: trying to use copy paper for a large model. :p

We look forward to seeing more of your work.
 
Quite the opposite...I made the same mistake and used ordinary copy paper :-)
In fact with a thickness of 100 gr. But I think it wasn't really a mistake...I found it easier to handle.

I don't have the experience with stronger paper yet but I can imagine that it would be more difficult to fold and cut it. Or am I wrong?

Well, my first was using 20# paper (about 80gsm if I recall correctly). I've used 67# paper (somewhere around 160 gsm) for many of my other works (not that I've done much with paper).

Thisker paper is a little harder to cut, but if you are using xacto type hobby knives it really isn't much of a difference. The same holds true with folding as long as you score the folds first. To me the thicker papers (67# and 110#) seem to fold easier than the thinner stuff. They just feel like they know where to bend once you score them, while the thinner paper it isn't such a great difference between scored and not scored.

I hope that this made some kind of sense. :oops:

If you make a model from scratch, out of PVC or Plastic Card of some sort, I will allow it. Readily available plastic models or not readily available), but models that were not fabricated by you, I think you know what I mean, short answer, No, this is 99.8% for Paper models, but scratch built models of any medium are always worth looking at, wouldn't you agree? :)

That sounds logical to me. For the next model I will try paper somewhere between 80 and 160 gsm (maybe about 120 gsm).

OK...then I stay with posting about paper models.
At the moment I'm only starting to paint an available resin model kit.
I'm far away from making a model from scratch because I have no clue how to work with resin yet.

Back again...

Hi folks,

sorry about my long absence here. Unfortunately I had to go through hard times supporting my father with his fight against tonsil cancer. It's not over yet but thankfully he's on the way to get well again.

So my thoughts were somewhere else than with my favorite hobby. But now I want to continue working on uhu's time machine. Not only for distraction also because it's fun and that's what I need right now.

As soon as I have finished (hopefully after the holidays) I will post some pictures here.

Oh my!! God bless our father, you and your family through this. Keep in touch when you can. Es tut mir sehr leid deine vater krank ist. Our prayers and good thoughts are with you. :)
 
Thank you Zathros for the kind words and prayers. Me and my family have only positive thoughts. That's the best we can do to give hope and strength to my father. But I just wanted to explain my long absence here to finish the off-topic message.

And surely I will keep in touch. Finally I'm addicted to this hobby that brings me a lot of fun and keeps me in touch with like-minded people.
