Master UHU02 never seizes to amaze. He is not only a gifted SciFi modeler but also does not hesitate to delve into the real world from time to time. After his last real world paper model, the famous and unbelievably detailed Faro Basso, he is about to replicate the Tokyo Tower. This building is made of steel and was constructed in a similar way like the Eiffel Tower. Here is a very informative wiki link:

This is going to be on heck of a difficult model if you want to build it to last. I would use Tig welding rod to line the main spires to keep it up. The Mercury capsule I made had the small rocket tower collapse under virtually no weight in 2 months. It folded right over. I used 110 lb. stock.

and believe it or not - the following picture shows the damaged Tokyo Tower as a part of the “Tokusatsu Hakubutsukan,” or “Museum of Special Effects” show.

Don't you think it will be self-supporting like the real thing? I suppose UHU02 will use heavy laminations to form a rigid structure. Actually, it reminds me of the delicate frames of the 2001 Space Station. :)
 
To be honest, it will be self supporting at first, but one would have to heavily laminate the bottom layers, and decrease this lamination as you to to the top. Things in physics to not reduce in size and have the same principles. One could dip this whole model in a Cyanoacrylate solution (Crazy Glue) and that would probably do the trick, for some time, but on it's own, without any sealing from moisture, it will act like a sponge, and keel over. Also, you only need make one side of this, the copy the others, as it is symmetrical. The floor girders need to be made separate, but there really is no need to make it from the ground up like that. He actually may have and is using sections to fit the floors. This is what I wish to convey, the design and build process. This is good for show, but it's now how it's actually done. It is easy to assign layers and only make the layers you need visible. I think that is what he is doing. Since there is no explanation, it should be discussed for those who wonder how to design stuff lie this. I think this will be much harder to build than design, and UHU is a master of both. The build is what I want to see. If the outside columns are boxed shape, the the structural integrity will increase exponentially, if the are "L" shaped, I see problems happening after a few months with the finished model. This my opinion, I am entitled to it, it comes from man years making real objects that were supposed to hold real tons of weight. Making car lifts from scratch and the like. This is a great model, but certainly not one of his most difficult in designs. What you call painstaking is actually his fine attention to detail. That is not pain staking, that is his skill.

I know that the French never really liked the tower. However, I always thought that it would make for an interesting model.
I am looking forward to seeing how this model will turn out.

Does that resentment, considering the source have any real meaning to it though, ya' know. :)

On a side note, UHU02 expressed his condolences with the victims of the earthquake in Japan. Our prayers are with them, too.

Those Night lights would be great to reproduce with tiny LED's. This is a beautiful structure, and model. As I am a machinists,my opinion sometimes differs from others, but this is an achievement of men, working with their hands, and creating something of geometric beauty. IMHO. ;)
