Here is an interesting detail for the prototypicly minded modelers among us.
The picture shows a fishplate, which is used to join two peices of rail together.
Note that this one is specially designed to join two different sizes of rail together, in this case, a length of 85 pound rail to a length of 100 pound rail.
It would be interesting if anyone has modeled this sort of thing.

Terry: most of us are content just to get the rails together; never mind details!
Survey question: How many bolts in a fishplate? ans which way do they face?
(This is an international question. I'll give my own viewpoint later.)
 
Hmmmmmm, vaguely recall an ad years ago for commercially made fishplates...don't know if it was in O scale or what. Now N scale fishplates would really be something!:)
