I'm close to finish the Tie Raptor so its time to look for a new project.
And I will go for the Tie Defender. Lots of parts I can re-use from the Tie Interceptor.
Only parts to design are the wings, wing support and a new hyperdrive module.
There are a few different type's.
The standard Defender

The Royal guard Defender

And the defender elite you can see this one in the animation series rebels.

I got lots of reference material to start with the standard looking defender and the best of all I got some 2d views that will help me a lot with drawing.

Yes these are pages from the Tie Fighter owners workshop manual.
But first I have to finish the Predator build and write the building instructions for the Havoc and the Predator.
Nice projects to start the new year with.

As you can see on the first posting there are a few different defender variants.
I will stay close to the lore and will build the standard version as shown in the Tie fighter owners workshop manual.
This means I can use some wing detail parts and the sphere from the Tie interceptor.

For this model I need to design the wings and the support at the rear side of the sphere.
I will start with designing the wings.

I just barely remember the TIE Defender, but I agree with starting with the basic model, then working thru variants.

I have been working on the wings for several day's and here are the first results of the outside wing.
Next up the inside of the wing. It will be a big template for the 3 wings I will laminated them up to eight layers.
I guess it will be 12 pages with only the wings.

I may have overlooked it somewhere - which prog do you use for designing?
I"m using inkscape for all my designs. Sometimes its hard to translate 3D to 2D but its a good exercize for the mind. And till now it went well.
Biggest challenge was to get a good sphere. Maybe In the future I will try to get Blender working.

First test with the wing is ready it looks good for me. Its a lminated wing with eight layers of paper so its about 1.25 mm thick.
I can use a thin paperstrip around the wing to cover the 1.25 mm white. For the details and greeblungs I can re-use a lot of parts from the interceptor. Im not gone test fit these on the wing. Here some shots of the wing.

My next step is test build the rear reactor with the wing pylons. So keep an eye on this thread there is more to come.
