Revell-Fan and I designed it specifically for such.
If this is your first time building the thunder fighter, I would suggest continuing the build you are working on now and after you are finished, build another one with the cockpit interior.
Reason for being, is that way you will get a better idea of how the kit goes together before adding the add-on kit.
 
Here's today's update.
I made one of these...took me awhile to figure it out, but afterwards it was smooth sailing. I wish I could say the say about the craftsmanship. I got a little sloppy here. Since I'm planning on building another one, I'm using this one as practice.

Seeing things come together is always a fun part of the craft.

You are doing good, but it looks like you are missing a part on this component.
I think that you forgot to attach part 146 to it (Please look at the instruction sheet that I attached. I highlighted the part that I was talking about).

I remember looking over that piece, too. I forgot to add it in my haste.

Not a problem. This was the first kit that I had ever build. When I was finished, it looked like rubbish. I had learned quite a bit from building and rebuilding this kit.
 
I was able to finish this (and only this:grumpy:) today.
Did it right, too!

Things have slowed on the build. Work and kids have to take a front seat for the remainder of the year...I saw another build in progress (Here) and it still looks like fun...
 
No worries. I fully understand putting one's hobbies and interests on the back burner for awhile when "REAL LIFE" take front seat. FAMILY COMES FIRST!!!
We will always be here. Please pop in to say "HI" every once in a while though (just to let us know that you are OK.
