Hello everyone,

I know that I have not posted in quite awhile, but here is my latest scratch built.
It is my redesign of the Thunder fighter from Buck Rogers. I have given it the designation MK-3
Before any of you comment, yes I know that I painted it in BSG colours (I like the colour scheme). The design for the original "VIPER" was the the original Starfighter used in the original Buck Roger.
As you can see I crossed the HBB Thunder fighter with an X-29. I like FSW planes and thought ("WHY NOT!").
I am planning to design a MK-4. Once I finish it I will post it.

This is a really nice, clean, crisp build. The paint scheme looks good too.

Thank you. I got the paint scheme idea from someone that told me about how the Thunder Fighter was originaly designed for BSG and included the paint scheme for such.

Once I get a better computer (I have to save my pennies, because Santa was not generous enough to me last year), I can start designing planes like this and putting them out for every one. to enjoy.

Once again, thank you for the encouragement.
 
I just use the PAINT program and cut and paste the parts off the X-29 and mated them to the Thunder Fighter, re-sized it to the scale I wanted, printed out the diagrams and scratch built it.

I am working on designing an MK-4. to give you an idea of what it will look like, I am making the engine sections hexagonal and the exhaust 2-D vectoring. It will still have the forward swept wings and front canards as the MK-3. I am using Corel Draw for that one though. I am not certain when I will have that one done though. I have other projects that keep getting in the way.wall1wall1wall1

I have always liked the over all design of the Thunder Fighter and the X-29 and thought that merging the two would make an awesome fighter.

I also built this in the Galactica scheme a while back. I used photo shop to remove the Buck Rogers insignias and cut and pasted the Galactica logos with Paint Shop Pro. I kept the original color of the Thunder with the exception of the red/carmine stripes. I assume that the hardest parts for you were the tail and the intake sections, Those were the hardest for me. The guns ports were not that hard, I did them a bit different and it worked out. I have been considering doing this one again but with a cockpit interior but that is for later Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

It looks very good. I am looking forward to seeing a build thread on your remake with cockpit.

I did have some problems with the intakes, but the tails were not to much trouble. I did have to redo the engine exhausts a few times. this is another reason why I am making the MK-4 with hexagonal engine pods and 2-D vectoring exhausts. It will make building easier. I also layered pieces of cardstock for texture and detail. That really was not hard, but it was time consuming.

I too have recoloured Martin Seanger's thunder fighter in BSG colours. I just have not gotten around to building it yet. Other projects have been popping up that take priority.wall1

As for "HIJACKING" my thread, no worries mate. I consider you one of the great masters of card building. I look to people like you for guidance and inspiration when it comes to model building. So when you put something like this in, I do not look at it like you are trying to "HIJACK" my thread, I look at it as learning material and inspiration for me to improve on my skills and keep going on this wonderful hobby. So by all means, if you have something it inject into any of my thread that seem relevant, please feel free to do so.

very nice work. I bet that would fly in a depron pusher prop configuration. Might have to pull out my depron and get cutting an airframe :)

I am not really certain what a depron pusher prop configuration is, but if you want to try it, I would like to see it once you are done.

I have always liked both BSG and Buck Rogers. The fighters in both programs are a good base platform for expanding and modifying. They are also easy to build basic models for beginners who are just starting to scratch build or wanting to learn how to modify a design.

A pusher prop is basically a remote control aircraft with the propeller at the back end of the aircraft.

Because the Thunderfighter has such a wide flat body it means there is plenty of "wing" area so it should fly quite easily.

This an F15 i built a few months ago using the same rear propeller principle.

The prop is not fitted in this picture but it sits just behind the engine outlets and is invisible when running so it give the impression of jet powered flight :)
 
Nice looking F-15.
I am sure that would work. with this kind of model.
Martin Saengers Thunderfighter has a good frame work that could be used as a pattern for either balsa or plastic pieces for this kind of model.
If you do make it, I hope that you post it.
