"They" don't think it's art.. They think it's a crime.......

If it involves defacing the property of others, it isn't art - it's vandalism. As proof, offer to go by a tagger's house and decorate to your satisfaction.

Absolutely right!!!! I agree...

While a train is going by - reading the graffiti helps pass the time, but as is said in the article it costs money (Profits) to clean it off the cars....

And you know they have to pass those costs on to their customers.. :( :(

Agreed. Any time you deface private property, you are breaking the law. Your point is well taken. It's funny, but people never see the harm until it happens to them. It's supposed to be OK because it's owned by a company?

I may add graffiti to my cars, but not because I like it (though I have seen some quite impressive work), but because it is real, something that actually does happen with the railroads

Mikey,I heard at the club a tagger got nailed in the act down around Columbus area.He was trespassing and a Security Guard called the Police.

I may model 2006 with my Huron River Ry but,I don't model the graffiti.

Some modelers even add this to their cars. I'll pass. I will stay with modeling the early fifties so i won't need this stuff.

Here's a better idea: We've all seen the modeling mag articles about placing little humorous vignettes in layouts, right? Place a tagger, can of spray paint clutched firmly in hand, being run down by a graffiti-tagged boxcar.

Works for me.

...or at least up against the wall, getting patted down by railroad security.:thumb::thumb:

I still model it as it's a part of the scenery...

First post for me, I usually just lurk.
I had to comment on that pic, shaygetz, that's a great RR car.
I love the realism! Well done.:thumb:

Exactly. These taggers should stick to their own property. Where I work, we had a few tags. Management cleaned it off very quickly but it was quite costly.

Another thing about tagging. I find that in the case of buildings, when the taggers visit, it's just a matter of time before the other vandals come and then eventually the arsonists.

Here is an idea - we have the tagger select what he regards as his best work, size it properly and tattoo him with it over his entire body. A man should be willing to be fully identified with his work.

The builders of Egyptian tombs, "tagged" their work, and we are just recently discovering it.
Perhaps, there's justice, in the simple fact that today's tagger's work, will, most likely, not last a decade, as opposed to, say, "Kilroy was here".

Beautiful Mountain Man. Absolutely beautiful. I love that idea!!! :thumb::thumb:

And I wouldn't mind pitching in 10 dollars toward the cost of the tattoo.

Well, sometimes railroad workers use spray cans on cars so that they can just identify cars by their number or which ones are to be junked, would that be considered vandalism?

That would be called "white lining" and that's part of the job, no different than me red tagging an old AC unit.

I like the tattooing idea...and, since I've done it in the past, I'll be more than happy to do their best work gratis, in HO scale, right across their forehead.:thumb:

If they were told to do that by their supervisor and the supervisor had permission from the owners of the cars, no. That's part of the job.

If they did it without permission from the owners of the cars... then it is.

It would be like me taking a sledge hammer to my car and smashing in the windshield. I own the car and can do what I please with it. However, if I did that to someone else's car and they didn't give me permission, then that's vandalism.
