Hold the phone gang! Gotta question.. I stop by a N scale club last night and I witness a old Trix FM switcher pulling 70 cars though a yard throat..Is this normal?

I don't think that is normal!

Mike,I didn't think it was..Of course I have no way of knowing if that FM was a stock unit or been rebuilt using a different motor or drive..
Anyway it really pulled those cars without any apparent problems.I do know the cars are stock except for the MT couplers/trucks..I never seen a Trix unit do that before.

a few months back there was a discussion on the atlas forum on how to hide a drive in a boxcar. might be this trix unit was not alone.

so far i don't know a n scale engine pulling 70. not even my brass big boy has this power.

I found one of my old 72 vintage Arnold Rapido heavy Pacifics last night and decided to see what it would do. 58 40'boxcars, gondolas and tank cars on the flat but only 55 on the 2% grade.

The Pacific rolled along great after the first loop. I made 3 loops and then put it back in the box. It sounds like a coffee grinder with the metal gears. :) :)
