How about choosing(sp) three to four acceptable/traditional colors for the members to select from. This would allow each builder to use a color that might be era appropriate. This variety of colors could be explained through mergers. ie:BNSF - green BN hoppers/red SF hoppers, etc.

Its a blue that I found for a race car model that I never finished(or really started).
Its called"Quality Care Racing Blue". Its made by Testors. .
