Standard Figure Design help please

Hi,
I am building a 1:1 Gary Pilsworth Land of the Giants Spindrift enlargement of the hero prop from the show.
It is about 40 inches nose to tail.
There is a need for a crew figure to make it come alive.
I have never really created a clothed person figure in any scale.
The height would be about 5 inches tall.
Included is a pic of the crew from the show.
Can some one please give me a diagram of how to make a figure?
I kind of know about shadowing in the folds and details of the clothes, and to make the arms and legs a truncated cone <> kind of shape.
Any hints would be appreciated.

Model the clothing OR cut your own patterns out of cloth and sew them...( it's not hard to do )

I like this model. The arms and legs could easily be elongated to make whatever size person you wanted.
