Stamp plaster?

I was wondering can you stamp plaster. I have seen people stamp concreate and wondered can I make decent rock face the same way. I have a shallow mold I made from a real rock that I could use but I don't know if it will work. If I can it will mean a lot less plaster and alot less time spent. I have a 3 foot by 8 foot area (3x4 but two sides). If so what type of plaster sould I use? normal plaster of paris, hydrocal, drywall mud even. Should I mix dry then stamp or mix normal wait then stamp? Any Ideas?:( Maybey its just a bad idea.

I read on another post about using air dry modeling clay.I thought about trying
this myself when I get to that stage. It must be "air dry" You push it in the rock mold real
good then pulled it out and slaped it on smooth the edges in and wait for it to dry.

Are you looking for an alternative to "casting" the plaster rocks or is "casting" what you have in mind? By "casting", I mean pouring the plaster into the mold, allowing it to dry and then removing it from the mold.
