This would be coming FROM Churchill, as the Gillam station is on the North side of the tracks.

HBR was still running a bunch of M420s when I was there in July.

Nice pictures! :thumb: I recall seeing those plow units down here in the banana belt on a couple of occasions, too. I also remember a Geep with modified air intakes, for use with a plow.

Generally we don't see those "funny-looking cars" too often either. Basically they're confined to MOW moves, but some shortlines still use them.

But in the trend of "funny-looking", I came across these:

What do you do when you have a modern, HEP-equipped loco pulling steam-heated cars? You mate it with something that provides steam heat, obviously - no matter how silly it looks:

MU Units on the Deux-Montagnes line (I'm not sure of the station)

Squidbait, you cannot imagine how I laughed when I saw and rode that train for the 1st time. I'm from Belgium and imigrated to Canada in 1980, so I was used to faster trains.
The surprise was amplified because I took that train at the Canora station, just at the exit of the tunnel.
I think the picture was taken at what is now Montpellier station.

Glad you enjoyed it... They've got new cars on the DM line now, and rumour has it that some ex-Mexican electrics are going to be pulling bi-levels there. I don't imagine the speed is much greater than you remember.

I was impressed with the system when I rode it last fall. At least Montreal understands about integrated public transit - you can get a bus/metro/train pass... and it's a ton cheaper than GO-chansit/TTC.
