Site crash issues, scaring me away!

I also am low tech and a dial up user to boot. The only thing I did when the forum changed was to log onto the new forum through a google search and save it as a new favorite. I've been fortunate to not have any of the above mentioned problems. I hope those mentioned above resolve soon!

AMD 64 Athlon 3500+ Dual Core processor running in 128 bit mode, 8 gigs RAM, 2 80 gig hard drives, 550 watt power supply, Gigabyte Super gold board, 128 mb video ram Gforce4 video card, 6 USB powered 1.1 ports, 6 USB powered 2.0 ports, USB card reader/writer, DVD rom drive, DVD burner, a Marvell Yukon 10/100/1000 ethernet controller connected to an Amdek cable modem with 5 mbps download speed. All this running under W98SE with IE6, SP1.

This site is the only one I have problems with. I'm a member at thirty different forums, three of which I own. One of my hobbies is building and programming computers. I was a computer programmer and data entry specialist for the better part of ten years. I'm a self-trained tech. I call my computer an Elizabeth Taylor because there's a lot of marriages there. I'm also a retired old-school hacker.:twisted: I cracked a Cray in 1984 using an Apple IIe on a 300 baud modem. I also had the Apple connected back to back with an IBM computer through a homemade adapter cable so they could exchange data years before Apple made the Mac's capable of reading MS-DOS data. Please do not assume that I do not know what I am doing.

I am not a real computer whiz but I do know that keeping the cookies and temp files cleaned helps the speed of load and all else with web searches. I dump mine whenever I close the browser. Everything seems to snap into place when I return, click on a link, or access the forum, etc. The only time it slows down is when McAffee runs a scan while I am doing something.

That's good practice. Everyone should do that, whether or not they're having issues. :)

Well, there's the problem then. Our poor little server has no hopes of keeping up with your setup. ;)
 
I am also having the problem with the Quick Reply not working and the long page loading problem. It is happening both at home and on my computer at work. At home I have 1 Gig of RAM and at work it is 8 Gig unit (for CADD applications). At home I am running a cable modem and at work that have some kind of direct connection or something fancy like that. I think someone called it a T1 line. All the Java and other plug ins are enabled and up to date.

Sometime I also get the time out error but like Mikey said I either refresh or go back. One out of four times, however, that does not work and I can not get back into the site for about 10 minutes.

A T1 connection is to cable what cable is to dial-up, a scorching speed-demon. My cable connection has a 5 mbps download speed at best. A T1 connection can have a 10 or more mbps download speed.

LoL, yea. But, Josh, I do very much appreciate the feedback. I am doing, and will continue to do my best to make improvements.

A lot of people don't realize that it's just me behind this. I'm a regular guy, with a regular family, with a regular bank account (mostly empty). The ads I'm running don't really even pay for the expenses currently. But I'm trying.

And, I really do appreciate everyone participating to make this a great community. And, a round of thanks to the volunteer moderators while we're at it! :)
