Scale Test Car

I'm working on scratchbuilding the scale test car below (although it will be in MOW orange, as it originally was built). I don't think it will be too hard to build, but my question revolves around the mounting of the trucks.

On most models they're screwed into a piece that protrudes from the bottom of the car so it doesn't rub against the car all the time. What does everyone use for this item ????

In most cases, my scratchbuilt rolling stock is done in styrene, and I use Evergreen .125" X .250" strip as a center beam, and drill for the truck screws with a 2-56 tap drill ( #50, or .070" ).
If you wish to, you can then add the bolster detail on either side of the center beam.

I can suggest 3 things.
Commercial bolster casting.
Scratch it from plastic/wood strip.
Cut down a commercial underframe.
