Raven 4 Build

I am glad to see that you are sharing your build with us.
Build threads are a great way to show off your skills, talents, and techniques, as well as show appreciation to the designer of the model. They are also a great way to highlight problem areas that you may have.
Not only that, but a build thread can inspire others (who are thinking) to build that particular model.

I am following this thread.
 
Well I can definitely say that I appreciate Alien99's models. I have always been a fan of the Alien's movies, and eventually want to get up to making the Sulaco model. I am also looking at the possibility of using his Starcraft Terran Marine Cannon as the basis for creating a body for a personal laser tag project I am eventually going to work on. But that is a long way away.

Here is the body of the Raven closed up. I am trying something that I hadn't even thought of before and actually learned here at Zealot by colouring the exposed edges of the model. I experimented on scrap paper with markers, but it bled too much, so I started using coloured pencils. it doesn't do a perfect job, but it hides the edges enough for my liking for this model. I thought about using watercolours, but my mind tells me that those will bleed alot too.

Any suggestions?

I (myself) use water colour paints and a "dry brush" technique. (*NOTE* They have to be TRUE water colour paints for this particular technique to work properly)
I start out with mixing the colours that I need. I then allow the paint to dry into a "cake". Once I have the dry paint "cakes", I will dip the paint brush in water and re-activate the paint. I will only get a very small amount of paint on the brush. Then I very lightly paint the edges (BEFORE I glue the parts together).
Once properly mastered, this technique will give you excellent results (even with very thin paper, like printer paper).

So I haven't uploaded images of my build for a little while, mainly because I have been going through the mechanations of buying a new house! Yes, more room to build, more room to display. I can see a Sulaco in my future, as long as I can find A4 cardstock or something similar in Canada.

Build threads are the heart of this forum. It also teaches those coming after. Build and post, please! :)
 
That could make a nice body for some of the R/C copters I have! :)
 
I was actually thinking of that. I am guessing that I would probably have to reproduce the body in plastic though. With the way I fly copters, it would get pretty banged up...
 
Hello All,

Well, after a VERY long hiatus, a VERY busy season, and the purchase of a new house, I finally was able to get back into modeling. And knowing that this thread was unfinished, I had to pick up the Raven 4 and get it finished.

However, I ran into a problem. During the time I was away, my printer died, and I ended up getting a new Epson WorkForce 7110. It's a great printer, too good in fact. When I printed out the parts sheets to keep going, the colours were brighter that the model I had already started. So there was only one thing to do... Start over.

I took the opportunity as well to rebuild it in A4 size instead of letting the printer down size it. So, what you see below is the rebuild of the Raven 4. It is rough, but I hope you all like it.
