Railfanning the layout

Today we went over to a place we call Quicks Cut. No sooner that we set up , Amtraks Nat. Ltd. came blasting through the bridge and was gone.. about 35 mintues later a surprise. This Conrail reroute came across the bridge. After that we had to wait for about an hour before this single SD40 came along. This Eastbound had a train of empty hoppers and had a few of the moonshine hoppers in the consist. After this we went back into town for some lunch.

Had a good lunch, and went back to the bridge for the afternoon action. We didn't have to wait long . This was another surprise. A GP39 with SWMT . It was headed to St. Louis to work the yard. This must have been the day of days for surprises, that GP39/SWMT had on the rear one of the Careful Car Handling Cabs. And to round out the day for surprises, another Westbound came along, and in the lead was a brand new SD50..After that we decided to head for home. wow what a day..

Yeah, I don't think you're going to see much more interesting than a Geep slug. Might as well quit lookin` (:

Great shots! Lots of fun to share your railfanning.

Speaking of the slug, is it showing off a bit of a hump in the main line just to the left of that crossing? Looks like each of its trucks are sloped upwards to the center of the unit.

Hey your right. I never noticed it till now. I'll have to check that out.
I think I may know what has happend. The trucks are the type that clip on and I'm thinking they have come unclipped when I set this on the layout. Thanks for noticeing this.
good eye for detail:thumb:

Had another good day of railfanning. We went over to the tunnel at Willow Valley today.
First up was Eastbound CU96 with the purple saftey caboose C3718, followed a little later by Eastbound #88. #88 and #89 were the HI wide trains.

Our first Westbound was GW97, with lots of power and the Maroon safety caboose , C3017. . 3 or 4 Four axles on a train was pretty common out here. The second unit on #97 is GP38 #3802, Train Magazines, All American Locomotive. Our last train before we left was Eastbound #94 with the Brown safety cab, C3714. Today must have been THE day for safety cabs.

Here's a couple of shots that turned out purdy good. First shot is at Arthurville. A Conrail hotshot is over taking an Amtrak and the second shot is at the East portal of Willow Valley Tunnel. Sure would have liked to have got a few shots from up there in that chopper.:)
