Question on Barnhart Loades

I am modeling a shay logging and coal theme in O gauge.

My layout will feature my own railroad, The J.I. Dorsey Coal & Lumber Co. of Fenwick W Va., a non protoypical corperation.

My question is what would be a common color for a loader?

Say, Meadow River or Cherry River Boom & Lumber or even WVP&P?

As you can see all the photos I have seen thus far are B&W.

Thank you for any help with this and you fellows have a nice forum.

Come to think of it, I never saw a color photograph of a Barnhart Loader, too.

But I think that a logging enterprise would use their money for more important things than fancy paintwork. So my educated guess is either black or oxide red (boxcar red), both probably the cheapest sorts of paint around.

However, if you are creating YOUR logging RR, then it's up to YOU, how you paint your equipment. :D

How about red. Red lead paint was used for priming years ago. Alot of times it was the only paint used.

It's brighter than boxcar red, but I'm having a hard time remembering exactly what it can be compaired to since I have'nt seen it in a long time. I want to say it was close to a stop sign red.

White lead was used also.

NOTE: I wouldn't mix the two like they did in "Up Periscope", unless you are going for that "Queer Eye" layout.
