Well I must be the odd man here, C&O for progress. Only 2 others even mentioned it. Any way I doubt if this is a surprise to anyone. my second would be J&S Short line. It is the short line that ties with the C&O on my layout. It runs on its last dollar all the time. Sometimes (most of the time) that dollar is borrowed.

INTERESTING OBSERVATIONS SO FAR...

But first, i should add, the Rail Roads i was looking for were all REAL RAIL ROADS, NOT freelanced model RR's:toug: , but i didn't clarify that from the start, my bad:119: .

WHAT I HAVE NOTICED...
1- We are a very diverse group here, there is a big span of what roads people on here like.
2- not many "current" Class 1 roads are on the tops of you folks lists.
3- i see big support for shortlines and regionals, thats kinda neat:thumb: .
4- with as many Canadians & Canadian friends we have here, NOT ONE Canadian road is listed on top of a list:eeki: , VERY surprising, and VERY puzzling:confused: .
5- currently, there seems to be more "Eastern" roads listed, then Midwestern or Western roads.

I pretty much stick to the entire history of the BNSF starting back with CB&Q. I also love the Rock Island Line.

However, I'm planning on starting over in Z scale and it's not likely I will find much in any of those. :(

I have noticed that US modellers tend to ignore Canadian roads, and Canadian modellers focus on their own. This tends to annoy me, because I see US and Canadian railroads as a unit. (Can't yet make myself think of Mexican roads in the same breath - but that doesn't mean I totally ignore them. I think of them more with the "foreign" - non-North American - roads, though.) So there are Canadian roads high on my list, but not on top, because that's how it just happens to be.

That reminds me: I've heard many times that Japanese, when they model US roads, prefer western prototypes. I think the same might be true to some extent in much of Europe. But we haven't got many non-North Americans voting yet.

Grew up on SF pre BN/SF in Point Richmond CA. They had a nice yard down there (still do but it has changed a lot).... But lately I seem to be looking at UP more.. I guess moving to Sacramento CA would do that to ya. :thumb:
 
I expect I'm really mixing things up here, as many of my favourite railways are British. In approximate order, they are:
-- Somerset & Dorset line (Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway)
-- British Railways ( 1948-66 )
-- London, Midland & Scottish Railway ( 1923-48 )
-- Great Western Railway (1923-48 )
-- Southern Railway ( 1923-48 )
-- London North Eastern Railway ( 1923-48 ).

For this side of the pond, I also like Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway (1950s). Santa Fe and Pennsylvania are others that I'm interested in.

I more or less model all of these, especially the S&D and British Railways.
