Here's another photo by my good friend cn nutbar, of his latest acquisition. This is not only one great looking loco, but also the smoothest-running steamer that I've seen, and the first I've seen with a working linkage for the mechanical lubricator. (located immediately aft of the valve chamber, up high and just below the barrel of the boiler)

Boy you guys didn't waste any time gettin' this one started! On that Milwaukee Road switcher, can you elaborate on those little white X's all along the bottom? Are they functional or decoration or what?

TrainNut:wav: , the Milwaukee Road had SEVERAL engines with the white X's on the bottom:winki: . what they were was white reflective tape to improve being seen at night:thumb: .

Deano, you gotta love those 10-44s. How did you do the white Xs?
tomkat, some very nice scenes. I especially love your last pic.

Something totally different from me this week. When i started with model railroading a few years ago, I began to build an n-scale diorama. I didn’t finish it, because I soon found out that N is the wrong scale for me. Ok, here are some pics, but to use Steve’s words: don’t laugh too hard, it was my first attempt.:mrgreen:

Wow, that looks fantastic. The cactuses...(cacti?) look... interesting. Can you elaborate a little on how this was created? Scenery, water, cacti etc.?
 
Kurt, nice rock work!.....& that small bridge looks so so real...I too did some N scale for my RR Club and found out how hard for myself to work that small...but my hard-hat off to all those who make a go at detailing something that small!
 
He's my effort for the weekend. It depicts the Putney, NY, station in the foreground with the major city of Jacksboro beyond in the distance (actually, across the aisle).

TrainNut, tomkat, thank you for your nice words. I started this diorama to get some practice, it didn’t have to be very prototypical. Somehow I didn’t rip it all off and threw it away. May be I even finish it off some day.

TrainNut, this picture shows the backside of the diorama. It is just a sheet of plywood with some layers of Styropor.

I carved the landscape out of the foam with a knife (a real mess) and then covered it all with a thin layer of plaster. I painted the river directly on to the plaster using acrylic paints. After it dried, I applied some very thick layers of clear paint. My wife did the cactuses...cactii...She used a soft children’s modeling material (called Fimo, quite famous here in Germany). When you bake it in an oven, this stuff gets hard.
 
A terrific assortment of photos and excellent modeling!

There seem to be several switchers pictured so far so I'll add to their number. KP&W units 24 and 34 at work....

1- SW3
2- MP15DC
3- Modern UP switcher #833 SD38-2
4- FM H10-44, this switcher is on my list of things to do(item #237 on my list:119: ) :winki: , i haven't even put Kadee's or ANYTHING on it yet:oops: .
5- QUESTION: this is the OTHER SIDE of my Milwaukee road FM H10-44, i haven't put the reflective X's on this side yet. MY question is: Does this engine look better WITH or WITHOUT the white reflective X's on it?:confused: YOUR ANSWERS COUNT:thumb: , let me know what you think:winki: :smilie: .

Personally, I like the X's! I think it greatly enhances the visual interest of the engine. That's all I have to say about that.
