"Page was not found" or: What is going on out there?

Yo fans,

I'm a regular reader of the Jedi Temple Archive news. A few months ago the site was not available for two days. I thought it was offline for maintenance and did not spend any more thoughts about it when it returned.

Last Sunday the site went offline again. Well, at least for me. Whenever I tried to reach it the infamous "page was not found" message popped up:

After a few days I got suspicious and ran a google search to see if anyone was experiencing the same issues. To my surprise the site is up and running as usual, with new posts and comments:

You see that the latest entry was written two hours ago.

Now I got curious and tried something that should not work at all: I fed the page that couldn't be found through Google Translator - et voilá, a translated version of the page appeared! I can even click the links and read the latest entries but I don't see any of the pictures:

If I switch back to the original page the "page was not found" message appears again.

This happens with all browsers (Firefox, Chrome etc.), only JTA is affected. So does anybody know what's going on there???
 
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

As a final attempt to solve this issue I downloaded Opera. Normal surfing showed the exact same thing (website unavailable). When I switched to the in-built VPN I was able to see the page!

Why do I have to disguise my IP address to read that particular page???

I am not a registered member at JTA but I suppose that will change if I cannot visit the site the traditional way next week. I have a theory. What if a spammer used my IP and got blocked? That would block me as well. As I said, if I still have to disguise myself to read the page I'll drop Paul a mail.

Maybe a small rant can clean up the skies. A marvel has happened (not only at the theatres; just saw "Ant-Man & the Wasp"; great fun, BTW!): JTA can be accessed normally again!!! PHEW! However, I'll keep Opera, just in case. :)

For months I have been thinking about when the movie takes place, before "Infinity War", at the same time or after it. The latter couldn't be the case because that would have eliminated every possible new "Ant-Man" solo story. I geared 70 % toward the first which in fact was not too bad a guess. But really, the first post-credit scene left me speechless. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming movies.

My theory (SPOILER ALERT):

The quantum world is somehow connected to the soul stone which would enable Scott to "re-materialize" inside the parallel world that has captured half the population. Then he teams up with the trapped Avengers and breaks the quantum barrier of the parallel world which would in turn reverse Thanos' clearing procedure.

Try using a proxy server, or a Private viewing window in Firefox. ;)

One of the things that is happening is in the url.. for Chrome as an example.. it strips the first of the url off in the address bar.. the link you were showing was originally https:// etc etc.. for a secure link but it is not a secure web address site and with the "S" I get a totally messed up website

... if you strip off the "S" to http:// etc etc .. it will display properly

I've noticed this on a lot of my old web addresses going both directions.. having to add the secure flag or having to remove it! also..chrome WILL NOT support or use NPAPI plugins.. or basically Java! and from the gossip.. it's not going to!

Ohhh, that's one thing I forgot about. Good tip, Gandolf! I'll try it when the site is gone again. :)
 
I like Firefox, I never have a problem with it. It has zillions of plug ins. I think it's the best browser out there. I won't use Chrome, I don't get the same search results. I like that I can add search engines in Firefox.

I only use chrome as some websites will only work properly with chrome.. ( ones I visit anyway) .. for my serious searches.. I rely on good ole IE11, it can do anything and has nothing added that you didn't want in it.. problem with most "EVERYTHING" is big BRO Microsoft..and their push first with BING now with Edge.. after Win 10 came out they buried IE11 so deep in the system files.. it really was 6 feet deep! We dug and resurrected it! Then web sites across the world suddenly announced they would not be supporting IE11 anymore and started pushing Chrome and Firefox etc. If you like to use speech recognition, Dragon or the like , and use Cortana YOU GET NO CHOICE. PERIOD! It can-not be changed from BING! No and,if's or buts! The refusal to support Java seems like away to kill off Chrome and make the push to Edge, just another attempt to regulate what browser we use.. Watch.. when they buy out Java and the like..I bet only Edge will be able to use it!

Firefox is my weapon of choice, too. However, if you want to print something the result may become unpredictable with lots of content missing. That's because FF is partially unable to feed the printer with proper website data (might be a scripting issue). In order to shorten the process I'll copy and paste the content to my office software or take a screenshot. ;)

I never print from any Browser. I'll press PRT SCN then open that in XNView which will give you an image much larger and clearer than your monitor shows, after or if you crop.

I have a very clever add-on: FireShot. You may take a picture of the entire page or only parts of it:
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/fireshot/

It saves as image or PDF. It's fast and efficient. That way you don't have to use a graphic program for editing. :)

Sounds good, I'll stick with XNView though, I have the library all set up, and its so fast and efficient, and can do so much more and save in so many formats. Good tip though I don't like having too many extensions on the browser, I think it slows them up. Not sure of that, just a feeling I get. ;)
