I would like to try narrow gauge card modelling NOT scaling down models,

There were some Manx Electric Tramway kits on ebay the other day. I'm not sure what the gauge was but they look narrow gauge. (00 Gauge MER and Narrow Gauge wagons Card Model Kit on eBay, also, Tramway Light Rail, Transportation, Collectables (end time 08-Jun-08 23:19:30 BST))
