You did an outstanding job on that! I was just sitting here looking at the lower half of the engine and I had to take another look I know you weather pretty fast, but there is alot of subtle weathering detail there! Deano, it would have taken me forever to get something, even approaching, that real looking. I'm not saying I could, because I can't!:winker:
Including detailing and weathering, how long did it take you?

I have posted these pics in this thread beforeops: , but Todd(csiguy) requested some shots i have taken of UP's flag units, and any Heritage units i had taken shots of:thumb: , sorry Todd, the ONLY Heritage unit i have taken pics of is the CNW one:frowns: , but i hope to have shots of ALL of them...eventually:winki::mrgreen: .

SWEET! She still looks great, but I wish they hadn't changed the trucks out to those Blomberg "M"'s. The WP had standardized on Blomberg "B" trucks from trade in units on ALL of their EMD and GE road power. Sometime in the mid 80's, apparently, she had her trucks changed, probably the result of a derailment. We keep a keen eye on her as we at the museum want her for the collection and once she comes home, we will be changing those trucks back out with a set of Blomberg B's that we have sitting in the wheel garden.

The Blomberg "M" type trucks have the shock absorbers and a different style of leaf springs in the center of the trucks. The B type has brake pistons above each journal whereas the M Type has one on each side frame so it can accomodate the shock absorbers.

Wasn't the Type B also equipped with clasp brakes? I always thought that the Type Ms looked somewhat naked. :-D

Yeah, that was the biggest visual difference with the clasp brakes at each end of the B's making the M's, like you said, look naked.

Steve!:mrgreen:...THANK YOU SO MUCH for the complements on my Alco C420:smilie::mrgreen: . Hey, DON'T sell yourself short, i know darn well you could pull off weathering as good, if not better then i did:winki: , i have seen your steamer, you done a FANTASTIC job on it:thumb: .

As for how long it took me to do the C420, the paint work took no time, installing added details didn't take long, but the decals always slow things up, i hate to rush them, and want to be sure they are COMPLETELY DRY before i do ANY weathering over them:winki: . i probably have about 3 hours in the whole job.

First, i want to apologize for not responding sooner to your commentsops: , i seen them two nights ago, but i didn't have ANY new shots to post, and who in the heck just wants to hear me ramble:119: , so i decided to wait till i had some new shots to put up before i responded:winki: .

Well, i took my NEW FM CNW H10-44 over to dads today, i switched out some cars with it, and ran it for a bit, NICE ENGINE, i REALLY LIKE IT!:thumb::mrgreen: . I left it at dads so i had a nice switcher to run there, and so he could run it if he wanted to:winki: . i also ran my CNW Alco RS-32, my UP Veranda gas turbine, and my TM4 FM H24-66.
dad ran his two current favorites, his Milwaukee Road F7, and his Milwaukee Road MP15AC:thumb: . dad also painted up two dozen phone poles and installed them, WOW, what i difference it makes when you add stuff to the layout:smilie: .

Remember when i compared the quality of my NEW MRC Alco C420 to that of Atlas's Trainman line, well after looking at my CNW Alco RS-32 today, i have to say the MRC C420 has more and better detail on it then the Trainman models:eeki: , so i am moving the MRC engine to just ABOVE Athearn BB engines, detail wise, AND the MRC runs MUCH better then the BB's:winki: .

ON another note, I have been a bit lazy, and haven't made it to Janesville in the last couple weeksops: , i decided to just stay in my own "back yard" and get some shots at ICE's yard, and UP's small S. Beloit yard, while i was out picking up some cigarettes. Sadly, the lighting was just horrible for pics at the time i was out:frowns: , so the pics didn't turn out to goodops: , only two ICE pics turned out so, so, and only one UP pic "kinda" turned outops: , regardless, i have posted them below:119: .

ON MY SIDE OF THE TRACKS...

I took a vacation day today:mrgreen: , after i dropped my son off at the High school i decided to head over to the UP, WSOR & ICE interchange tracks in Janesville. it was very cold out this morning, and it was pretty hazy out, i had hoped the haze would clear out as the morning progressed, but no such luck. not an ideal morning for pictures, but none the less, i made the trip, so i wasn't going back empty handed.

As i pulled up to the interchange, i noticed WSOR had their MP15AC #1503 painted in their colors now:eeki: , so i took a few shots of it, i am posting a "before" shot i took of it, and the "after" shot i took today:mrgreen: , look for them at the bottom of this post:winki: .

WSOR was busy shuffling around engines and cars this morning, and i watched UP drop off some cars at the interchange, then they picked up what ICE & WSOR had set out for them. it was a good hour for UP to do all they had to do at the interchange, i had a good time watching the whole operation:smilie: . i was pleasantly surprised to see UP using a CNW caboose this morning, like i said it was cold so i know the brake man was glad to make use of it.

I was really hoping ICE would have made it up to Janesville this morning, it would have been neat to see all three local roads at the interchange:twisted: , but ICE never made it, with my luck though, they probably showed up 10min after i left:119: .

The pics below are not greatops: , the sky was overcast, and it was hazy out, but i took pics anyways. i was able to get a few fallen flag freight shots, I'll post them in the fallen flag freight thread later:winki: . i am posting a CNW boxcar i got a shot of this morning below though, notice how the roof of it is pushed up from fork lifts:winki: .

Scott, if you mean like the model i have of the AC4400 #6344, those were EX-SP units that UP painted that way to quickly cover the SP up and make them UP, it was more then just a patch, but cheaper to do then to put UP's paint scheme on them right away:winki: . they only did that to a few of the big road units, i believe none of them exist today, but i am NOT 100% sure of that. i DO KNOW that #6344 no longer is gray like that, in fact it was painted in UP's colors just before i bought that model:winki: .

there are UP engines that are remote control that are still 100% gray, but they are smaller engines just used for yard duty:winki: , no front windows in them either:eeki: .

Forgive me for interjecting some input... This unit, UP 6344 was the only road unit done this way. You'll notice it is in full modern UP scheme, excepting the missing yellow. It was painted by CEECO and is believed to be the product of a misread paint diagram, a mistake that didn't last long, it has been repainted. The all gray engines on UP's roster are actually remote control trailers, retired locomotives that have been de-engined and equipped with remote control equipment, and can be MUed to other locomotives to be used in remote switching service.
The 6344 is believed to be a fluke that will not be repeated, and is quite famous for her short lived gray paint scheme, also the ESPEE fans love her, since she looked the part of an SP engine, and is in fact former SP.
