On Track, with Deano

First, i would like to thank my VERY GOOD FRIEND Wayne, for the SLAP FANTASTIC "works of art" i got from him:worship: , and for helping me collaborate the story that went with the pics, THANK YOU WAYNE!:worship: , THANK YOU, MY FRIEND:smilie: .

ALL the engines & freight cars in the last post i did i just recently got from Wayne.
One HUGE surprise for me was he offered me the very engine i loved THE MOST of his, #501:eeki: . now you folks know EVERY ONE of Wayne's engines(and everything he has:winki: )are detailed to the max, and each one of them are SLAP AWESOME, but honestly, and Wayne can attest to this, #501 was by far my Favorite steamer out of his whole engine roster:twisted: , just getting this engine alone, was the GREATEST thing i EVER could have gotten. #501 IS my most prized possession, and Wayne, i know i have said it a thousand times, but, THANK YOU!:worship:

Don't get me wrong folks, i love EVERYTHING I have gotten from Wayne, recently, and in the past:winki: , but i just had to make a special mention about #501, since i NEVER, EVER, dreamed i would have that engine.

Jim, EVERY ONE of the engines and freight cars in my last post ARE permanent editions to the RVS:winki::mrgreen: .
And your right, it IS pretty AWESOME to see Wayne's work on the RVS, I feel honored to the HIGHEST degree to have some of his stuff:smilie: .

#501, besides all the TONS of detail this engine has, the all weather cab, and centipede tender are my two favorite things on this engine:winki: .

Dean, that stuff looks right at home on your layout. :thumb::thumb: Thanks to you and Mister Nutbar, I'll soon have my layout rooted firmly in the '30s, with no "distractions" from the '50s, '60s, or '70s. Most of that newer stuff is now gone, although the replacement equipment needs to be built, detailed, painted and lettered. This is almost like starting all over again. ;):-D
It's nice, too, to see the Museum starting up and, in some small way, to be a part of it.

Hey Deano, when will your book with all the stories of the RVS be released? I definitely want a copy! :thumb::thumb:

The IRM will face rough competition once you have your museum running. The engines contributed by the EG&E alone are worth a visit!
 
Excellent Deano---nice to see your dream has come true,looking forward to many more threads related to your new additions.Like yourself,I also am very fortunate to have Wayne as a friend---for those who are familiar with my pictures on the gauge,the good Doc deserves all the credit as he has custom painted , detailed and most recently custom built(#4193) the majority of my steam engines.Recently when Wayne decided to thin his collection,I also was able to add many of his treasures to my railroad---as I often tell Wayne "his children have found a good home"---and it's nice to know some of his other children have also found a loving home in Wisconsin---Nutbar

THE GREAT TRAIN CHASE...OR,
WHEN GREAT MINDS COME TOGETHER...OR,
ALWAYS BRING YOUR CAMERA
(ANY of those could be the title to what happened tonight:winki: )

Mom & Dad took my son and I out to eat tonight, we went to the BEST place to get ribs here, Famous Dave's:thumb: . in my opinion, the ONLY way to make ribs is to hickory smoke them, and Famous Dave's is the ONLY place around that does them that way:winki: ...ANYWAYS, Famous Dave's is in Janesville, we can get to it two ways, one way you go by the WSOR roundhouse, the other way you go over the South end of UP's Harvard Yard, so i knew a camera was needed on this trip:winki: .

After the AWESOME meal, on the way back we seen engine movement in the South end of the Harvard yard, i asked dad to turn down the road to get down there, and luckily dad did. dad thought it was a train headed to Proviso yard in Chicago, now 99% of the time this would be correct, anything in the south end of the yard is normally destined for Proviso, but as we got closer i noticed the engines were GP40-2's...Hmmm...Chicago bound freights are usually run with AC4400's, Dash-9's, SD60M's or SD70M's out of here. as we got as close as we could i recognized the three units right away, they were the engines that are stationed in UP's South Beloit yard!:eeki: .

I took pics of the train being made up that I KNEW was headed to South Beloit:mrgreen: , #1360 was on the point, with #1362 & #9993 mid way in the large consist. now as you folks that follow this thread know, i am familiar with just about every engine that is stationed in UP's Harvard & South Beloit yards, thats how i knew where it was going to end up, but i didn't have a clue as to the exact path it would take to get there.

Now Dad on the other hand, knows ALL the tracks around here, keep in mind ALL the tracks here were REALLY CNW & Milwaukee Road tracks, and dad was/is a big fan of both:thumb: . dad knew the EXACT path that train would take to get to south Beloit. It would run through Tiffany, then head to Clinton, and on to Beloit & South Beloit. so Off we went to Tiffany.

We got to Tiffany but decided not to wait for the train, we wasn't sure how long it would take to get there, and we had Mom and my son with us, and they like trains about as much as getting teeth pulled:119: . i will say though that NEITHER of them had complained one bit through this trip:thumb: , but dad and i didn't want to push it, so we went back to their house.

Back at dads he pulled out his hand held scanner, and put it on UP's frequency, but we didn't hear anything for awhile. then their dog wanted outside, so dad took the scanner and the dog out, and i grabbed my coffee and went out to have a cigarette with it. we no sooner got outside and we heard a horn off in the distance:eeki: . i told dad "that horns a ways away, lets head downtown and catch the train as it comes through", so we were off and headed down to ST.Paul St. to catch the UP freight we seen leaving the Harvard yard:mrgreen: .

Now we were about a mile from my folks house, parked along the track, not 10min later, here comes that train:mrgreen: . they had obviously done some switching on the East side of Beloit because now #9993 was on the point, and #1362 was right behind it, with #1360 on the end of the consist. Words can not describe how neat it was to see that HUGE consist running through Beloit, headed to south Beloit(two blocks away).

I saw a couple umolested CNW hoppers in Whitcita Falls TX a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't get pics:cry: Same thing with a SP gravel Hopper.

sure, i know most all the local engines, and where they are supposed to be, but i gotta give my dad the credit for knowing the exact route, he knows all the trackage around here better then me, though i am learning:winki: .

ON MY SIDE OF THE TRACKS...
Well, i was really hoping to post some shots from ICE's west yard today, went by there twice, but they were out on a run, so sadly, no pics from them tonight:cry: . ICE is the closest road to me, but they have the least amount of action.

they could have been anywhere from Janesville to Chicago, i am guessing on a Chicago run because they were gone for so long. perhaps I'll get some shots of them, or WSOR this weekend, we'll see how it works out:winki: .

Well, my plans was to rail fan all three of the roads by me, i got UP pics, and WSOR pics, but the closest road to me, ICE, didn't have ANY engines in the West yard all weekend:frowns: , so i wasn't able to achieve my goal, but at least it wasn't from lack of trying:winki: . ICE is only about 3 miles from my House, perhaps i can catch them by this weekend.

Striped my DDA40X tonight:twisted: though I am a long way from starting that project. Also stiped a pair of spectrum sd45s that may soon return in oragre or silver or black and orange I haven't completly made up my mind yet:confused:
