I just bought the P-51 D MUSTANG 375 FS. After looking at the model and knowing Dr. Z's work, I found something interesting. If you zoom in on the Aircraft Registration you will notice the U.S. Army P-51D-20NA Serial Number AAF 44-72199 but the tail indicates it 44-13619. Now I would like some help here. I can not find any info about 44-13619 but I did find some on 44-72199. </quote>
I was interested enough to do a bit of digging:
On http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/1944_1.html:
44-13619 - (352nd FG) lost Aug 12, 1944. Pilot POW.
but this aircraft isn't on the site:
http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/352ndfg.jsp
the other serial 44-72199
Turns up on http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/1944_5.html
72199 (c/n 122-36658) to Swiss AF in 1948 as J-2019.
On the littlefriends site at http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/357thfg.jsp
44-72199 P-51D 362 Sqdn G4-A Capt. Charles E "Chuck" Weaver Artwork - Nude painting
Interestingly a similar serial to the first one is also assigned to 362 Sqdn.
44-13691 P-51D 362 G4-A Maj. Arval J Roberson Passion Wagon + artwork of nude reassigned to Weaver
44-13691 P-51D 362 G4-A Capt. Charles E "Chuck" Weaver Passion Wagon + artwork of nude a/c from Roberson
It's reasonable to see how the confusion in serials could arise.
