need new idea for a 12 x 6 layout

Welcome aboard BB! I'm thinking you'll get lots of good ideas from folks if you can provide a little more info about the kind of layout you're interested in (switching, mainline running, both, ect.) and the era and type of equipment you want to model. Also, do you have preferences about an around-the-walls or other style of layout?

I think if you try to build a 12' x 6' island type layout you will have difficulty reaching the center of the table. If you have room for a 12' x 6' island with access all of the way around, you might want to consider a U shape, or around the walls type with access in the center.
