I am working on my own version of a gonk droid from SW in 3D.
I have no experience with adding textures to the model, and I was wondering if anyone would like to help?
You can make your own with different cad programs out there but I google for sci-fi texture and use the art in a cut and paste method. one of the sites that I use for my textures is http://www.art.eonworks.com/gallery/texture/sci-fi_panel_texture-200040.html enjoy and I hope that this may help. (my programs that I use are paint shop pro, and Gimp)
your model looks awesome so far do you mind if i ask what 3d modeling program you use im trying to learn how to do 3d models but im not good with computers lol is there a program that can teach as i go?

I use Metasequoia for my 3D work. I learn by doing, I started out by modifying other 3D models found on the net. Then slowly I moved into trying my own designs. I find as a tip, think of your model as a collection of basic shapes or primitives and go from there. Metasequoia is free to try, just download. After the trial the cost as of this post is $45US.
not much in the way of a tutorial in english. All I suggest, take your time and see how the different tools work.
Depending what you want to do in 3D, for me its just basic stuff so Metasequoia works well. If you are doing it for other display models such as for product renders or games, I would suggest 3D max or similar.
