Mine's still in the box and will be until I
get the place ready on the layout to put it.
I think the lights make the scene.
Take long to build?
Much trouble lining up those rail supports?

Is that a (Holstein) paint scheme on the
engine in the Tillamook Bay snapshots?
I wish I had thought of that!

Thanks for the nice comment. I assume you mean the first picture? I dont know what they used in that scene. That picture is from the Walthers website showing the version they did. I built the building in no time at all. The thing that took the longest was the painting and waiting for it to dry. There is a lot of stuff you have to make sure it fits correct before you glue so I am sure that slowed me down a bit.
The worst part of the build has to be the windows. They dont fit as well as a lot of the other parts of the kit. The rails went in really easy. The leg supports for the platforms and how they have you build them I think should be done better. Lasty I recommend spru <sp> cutters for getting the pieces out of the plastics trees. It helped me a ton!

I also ordered this stuff to put in the model when its done. I think it will really bring it to life.

It reminds me of the plant I worked in as

The lighting is actually bulbs. I thought doing LED was the way to go but for one the local bobby shop didnt have any in stock and to be honest now that I have these in the LED's would have probably looked wrong anyways.
The lights I used are these.

Walthers Part # 490-8488. I cut the pole off and the lamp was the correct size for the doors.
The lights I used inside the engine house are from this company.

I got a set of five and the lamp shade is brass. There really isnt much to the light. The wire was twisted and I hung it from the rafter. As I do more detailing I will take pictures of the building in "daylight" and you will be able to see them better. I hope this helps!

I also like the accessories you have for the scene.
I am going present day and its hard to find anything
that fits post 1950's thats worth a look.
I am glad I asked about those lights.
Do you think for outside security lights the LED's would
be better?

I used the bulbs for both. LED's are great, I just dont know about the light it will give off. The bulbs are said to last 5,000 hours so I just went with it. I am very happy with the results. I too am doing modern day with some of the stuff being around for a very long time. My layout, town is based on a granite mine that formed the town. The town has changed with the times and only a very little still remains from its former days. I have a lot of respect for those that do the past but I want to do the present. So many people do the past in layouts I thought this would be better for us.

industry. The farming towns of the upper midwest have
suffered over the years but new technology could give them
another chance! ADM, Cargil, ect..........
Great Bay & Northen will be the short line serving Timber City
Erdinger, North Ridge and Grain Belt.
Your scenario could be named many things. I pass through a
little town in my travels called Rock Springs. It is almost surreal
in its self. Nestled in a valley of the Baraboo Range and contains
a very special and one-of-a-kind purple granite. Only location
in the world that has it. Every so often a UP 3-5 engine
hook up is seen loading 30-50 ore cars there.
They use it in roadways but also for ballasting the track locally.
Kinda funny looking to see purple rock for ballast but thats what
makes it different!
Good luck on the name and can't wait to see more pix!

Its not really purple. Its more like, say, Light purple.
Their is a name for it but me and names don't go together so good.

I had seen a post earlier that a post master wouldn't allow a name to close
to another town?
Well, every state has a at least a dozen names of towns from other states.
Take Hillsboro for example. 44 states have a hillsboro. Some
spell it different but its the same name. And hey, this is our little world so
if you want to name it (cracked rock or boulder cove or granite sun or snow basin)
you can do it.
Well, I finally got a train running on the layout tonight (after 9 months!)
so now the real work begins.
