My Ekranoplan

The KA part must be for amphibious lifeboat in Russian.l I got the info from a translated .doc file that had the test parameters for ESKA but unfortunately did not have the original words. The translation for the abbreviation was suggested as being "Ekranoplan amphibious life boat".

I was wondering about that. I've put a hydrofoil "ski" on mine to get it out of the water for take-off. I also put on wing "skis" instead of sponsons.
I'm delighted that the ESKA is a lifeboat. That is what I had in mind with my skip. It shows that I was thinking in the right way. The elevation of the ESKA looks like it might have space for a litter behind the two seats. I was thinking along the same lines but instead have a third seat that can recline. It's just so cool that I ended up with a craft that is the same size, same purpose, and same capacity as the ESKA.

I may have to put more nods to Russian technology in my novels. I recently decided to rename a character with the last name of Politkofski. It's the name of a Russian build boat that opperated in Alaska. That boat was named after the guy who started the Russian American Fur Company.

I like my word "skip" but it gets confusing when I have skips, skiffs, and ships all in the same scene.
 
Life Ski

The Orlyonok A-9) uses a hydrofoil to take off of water. It can be clearly seen in some pictures. The Russian deserve big nods for these machines. They really plodded ahead with designs that could never have been tried anywhere else. Their really big Saspastel Ekranoplan was being planned as a rescue ship after they lost a submarine. They figured it could get the machines and equipment there faster and was seaworthy, able to loiter in the water.
 
I have decided to re-design the construction method. I have built a few paper planes and I think having the main spar as part of the formers would make for a better model. It would be easier to get the wing angle if the design had it built it. I am trying to work thru a medical problem that is affecting my vision. Too many headaches when I concentrate, I do see light at the end of the tunnel and wish to finish this thing off for once and for all. I don't know exactly how to post it or who would host it. I don't plan to charge for it so if any one reading this would be interesting in hosting it let me know. Thanks much for asking, I have been following your models with much awe. I actually contacted the Russian Ekranoplan (Hydrofoil Bureau), an engineer sent me an e-mail with the address of a person to contact to get full specs on the A-90 Orlyonok, but I have not received a response.

You could put it in the parts-bin, but we should ask Ricksteff to make an new categorie, is it a boat, or is it a plane?

Redesign

I have been working on redesigning this model. It is pretty far along. I work slow, but here's some recent pictures.

Slowly but surely, inch by inch.Actually, (as you may know) the constant Migraine I have makes it difficult to work.

Every part on the model unfolds and is buildable (I have made one already), I just want to fine tune it and try and get the motor right, which is a compromise because of the compound curves. Thanks.
 
Well, I worked off of blueprints, but yes, I made it using Rhino 4.0. O made one for my son. It has been thoroughly trashed. I will get back to these eventually. I just had to walk away from them for a while. I got burned out. :)
