Model Power

I'm also interested in the answers here -- I asked a similar question earlier in the year & I believe people thought that Model Power locos were pretty good.

I'm also interested in their other stock as well. I bought a 1950s CNR caboose which I think is good quality. However, I recently saw a batch of CNR passenger coaches for sale which made me wince. :eek: Instead of having the dark green that they should have had, the green was a sickly yellowish -- I couldn't believe how "off" it was.

So my impression is, while MP products might be economical, their accuracy and possibly their quality may be hit and miss.

Still curious to hear what others say though.

It used to be...at least in HO...that there stuff was junk. I'd heard the same thing about their N-scale stuff...but I don't know if it was accurate.

I'd be very cautious about purchasing any of their models.

If I was looking at N-scale steam...I'd be staring down the Spectrum, Proto 2K, and Kato stuff.
 
I've been wanting to get the MP Pacific myself. I've read that they are noisy but the critic I read said "the noise is acceptable if the loco isn't run a 160 mph." No one else seems to make a 4-6-2 on N scale, so I'll have get one (even if it becomes a yard dog) to complete my O.B.S. collection.

I have one of each of the MP locos. My fav is the 2-6-0 but all run very well and quiet. If you have grades you'll be disappointed with a lack of pulling power. I've read on another forum that MP has replacement drivers with traction tires available but this is not a task for the faint of heart. I sure won't be attempting it. I've disassembled many HO locomotives but the few N scale locos I've tried have ended up in the parts box. Fountunately I have no grades.

I've got a Pacific. Right now it isn't running well at all. One of my projects for the near future is to take it apart and see what's up inside. I think I am having a gear alignment problem, as sometimes the motor spins, but the drivers don't move. I'll post more if I discover anything!

I haven't had a chance to break it in yet, but for the ten minutes I had it going back and forth on two sections of flex track, it's jurky at low power, and has a spot that I need to give it a push if starting. Hope an hour or two around a circle track with loosen it up a bit

Is it bunny hopping, or just running jerky? If it is hopping check the quartering of the drivers. In other words, make sense the 'weights' on the three drivers on each side are at the same relative position. If they are not, the running gear binds, and the loco just about leaps off the track. You can move them a bit on the axle with your finger. If the hopping goes away, put the tiniest grop of CA on the en of the axle of any wheels you moved.
