Mine ore carts

So, I had a wild hair. My grandfather worked in the mines of Butte, MT. As a child we went back to Butte almost annually. I decided to design and build some ore carts. I did these as I could design the models using only a scale and pencil. I designed both with a 1" gauge and the intention of using HO wheels. I may design some wheels to go with. I do need to design the tilt lever to finish the first model. The first picture is the prototype for the first model. I may try to design the compressed air loco in the second picture (From the World Mining Museum, at the Orphan Girl mine Butte, MT. My grandfather worked in that mine among others). mine.jpgbbm-8.jpg IMG_2960.JPG IMG_2961.JPG IMG_2962.JPG IMG_2963.JPG IMG_2966.JPG IMG_2969.JPG

This is a cool idea and a GREAT way to honor your grandfather as well.
I am looking forward to seeing how this project turns out.

Well, I tried to transfer the hand drawn model to a decent file, but no dice. So I re-drew the design in a 2D CAD program. This is the alpha build of the new file. The model is "in the white". There were only one real issue that I need to correct and I have modified the wheels for aesthetics. Those changes will be in the next build. If all goes well I will transfer the file from DXF to a more common file format and then look at texturing before making it available, if there is any interest. I really like models like this. They make great display pieces too. They preserve a tiny part of history, an important tiny part. :)
