MDC brought out a line of kitbashing series called 3n1 quite a few years back , i am pretty sure they are not available except secondhand .

Managed to get some of Ebay , i would like to see some others if anyone would be interested in posting some pictures of them.

This one is from the Fire Train Kit N° 1507
It is a chemical Tank car , made from a tank car and reefer bodys on a reefer underframe..

If some kind soul has a list of the 3 n 1 kits made that would be appreciated.

Enjoy

Nice looking tank car that, I wouldn't mind one of those. Cannot help with what other 3 in 1's there are, sorry. Anyway, I have re-done your photo for you, hope you don't mind.

Ian,
Nice looking tank car!! I really didn't pay much attention to the instructions, because I was using the parts for narrow gauge equipment.
I found this list in one of the 3in1 kits:
1500 log car set
1501 wood chip set
1502 26'flat car set (3cars)
1503 34' mw car set (3 cars)
1504 yard office & 2 box cars
1505 shanty, 1 pass'r car, 1 reefer
1506 office: 1 flat, 1 tank car
1507 fire train
1509 office & 3 log cars
1510 battle mountain (dummy) climax
1511 station caboose & boxcar
1512 office & two car set
1513 victoria st scene
1514 battle mountain /street scene
1515 rotary snow plow-dummy
1516 spreader, crab, and flanger
1517 dozer, flanger,plow
1518 battle mountain "galloping goose"

the climax, and the goose are HOn3
in the battle mountain series there was also a dummy HOn3 outside frame 0-8-0t, 2-8-0t

Hi Camelot,
Here are pics of the 3-in-one series (except the caboose which is a single item).

I bought these about 10 yrs ago and don't know if they are still marketed.

And of course such cars are pulled by what MDC call a Climax (when I get it to work properly) :D . Shamus has a much better modified version of this loco, check out his posts.

As far as I know, MDC is still producing most of the 3-in-1 kits, and I have had no problem getting them recently.
Try your LHS (if one is nearby) and see if they can get them for you.
Happy modeling and Cheers!

I have a few of the 3 in 1 structure kits: Victoria Station, the cable-car powerhouse/office kit, and one other structure kit, along with a few assorted parts for those kits. Handy scratchin' & bashin' utilities.

Welcome to The Gauge:wave:

I'm sorry for your loss. I do my best to help folks find the value of their loved ones items. The 3in1s are a kitbasher only kit that require some modeling skill, additional parts and pieces and imagination to put together. As to final value I could not say, they vary with each kit, but they do fetch a good price on Ebay.

This is their 1515 rotary plow that I did several years ago. I saw the unassembled kit itself recently sell on Ebay for around $25.

iF you took 3 kits and mixed them all up, could you get nine cars then?
Yes, that's possible. The basic idea of the 3-in-1 kits was to provide material for three items, or combine parts to make one, or two items. Sort of a "kitbash" in one box. I used their "firefighting train" kit to make one narrow gauge boxcar, and two narrow gauge tank cars.
