Hi... I still have a bunch of HO stuff left over from last year's big sale... but I'm most interested in this 'cardboard' caboose made by lionel. It's in pretty great shape... I'm just not sure what it's called. If it isn't worht much, I'll keep it since I like it, but if it's worth a penny or two, I'll probably ditch it to afford other toys. Anybody have any info on these things? I think it was made during 1943-1944 sometime.

Thanks!

I don't know anything about value, but your dating sounds about right. Probably made during ww2 when all metal went toward war production.

Lionel made a whole train set in cardboard during the war. I'm not sure of value; unmade it's rare, made and surviving may be rarer. There was a repro set made recently.
The reputation is that the set was Lionel's worst Christmas joke on parents. Apparently it was miserable to put together and even more disappointing to run.

I'd do an ebay search and see if there are others out there. I'm sure it would seel if you put it up, but I'd want as much info on it myself. It may be that one piece that some collector needs to complete a set. Never know.
