Jupiter

I've taken off from build your own planet. Now I'm modeling Jupiter.
Here is where I was with building the planet.
I've decided to focus on the painting part of things. This is a canvas panel painted as an experiment along with a section of the globe in the process of being a painted.

I've gotten diverted. I first did a style test with the panel on the left. The colors seem too loud and floral to me, so I want back to the art supply store for iron oxide colors. Here I put a smears of the colors on some paper to see what they look like. I'm surprised that Payne's gray is so blue. Looks like I'll be using Terra Rosa, Yellow Oxide, and Payne's gray. Prussian blue seems to bright--even though it is an iron oxide color. I may save Prussian blue for Neptune. So now I'm trying out yellow oxide for the underpainting. I think that's the traditional way to do it so that it reflects more light through the paint.

That looks good! I too think that Jupiter is more reddish-rust-orange than rosa.
