Here we see some leased motive power on a northbound empty pellet train headed for Minnorca. The DMIR will soon be able to return all leased power to home rails and have an entire DMIR loco roster. This will become final when the ex BN SD9 is rebuilt and proudly wearing Missabe Maroon and Gold.

I hope it will look better when blended in with the scenery. There should be a row of pines there so you wont see the bottom.

Oh BTW, doc, what was Selco 81's final fate? I'm always interestend with engines with bizzare histories...

I'm not sure what eventually happened to the 81. Stelco had 23 EMD switchers, and several GE centrecabs in service at Hilton Works in Hamilton, and quite a few other locos at various locations around the country. I can't even find an all-time, all-inclusive roster for the company. I did find a couple of photos of #92 working somewhere in Hamilton, although not at Stelco. I also saw photos in an issue of Trains magazine that showed several of their locos at a used loco dealer's facility in Ohio. I think that there are only 4 or 5 locos still in use at Hilton Works.
Here's a shot ,taken at about 2:00am, of #80 pulling a drag of empty ingot buggies from the USM, where I worked. The mill is long gone and this area is now an open slab storage area.

Awesome engine Kurt, I really like EMD's with chevron stripes on the nose (especially on high hoods) and ATSF's silver and black scheme is CLASSY!

Hey Deano, how do you like that Atlas SD-24? I am considering getting at least one to power my short line. I need 6 axles but I want something other than the usual SD-9.

Hey Doc, what did you do for Stelco?

Here's a shot of my some Overton cars I recently picked up at the museum during "Railroad Days". These cars don't fit my modeling era, but being an Old West reenactor, I couldn't resist. So, I am going to park them on an unused spur up on the back hill with my MDC 2-6-0, a bunch of Old West gunfighters, lawmen and train crew and several film crew filming a Western. Does anyone know if the Musket Miniatures 15mm figures are close to HO scale? I'll cut the door out on the express car and have the gunfighters jumping out in a hail of gunfire.

Well Steve, i have done the math, and figure i have only been modeling for about 624 weeks:winki: , guess i am a slow learner:toug::119: . STUPENDOUS JOB on the grain elevator:bravo: .

Really great photos this week, great modeling. I'm proud to be a member of this group. Quite frankly I've seen better modeling and photos here then in all the hobby and railfan press. You are a bunch of great fellows.

Tom, the detailing on the Atlas SD-24 is SLAP AWESOME!:thumb: Atlas motors are TOP NOTCH:winki: , i put a MRC sound decoder #1643 in mine, i think the sound matchup is GREAT and it runs FANTASTIC!:thumb: THAT ENGINE WOULD MAKE A GREAT ADDITION TO ANYONES ROSTER:winki::mrgreen: .(see SD-24 pic below) BTW, cant wait to see your GERN!:thumb:

On MY Side of the Tracks....
Went to dads today:thumb: , gave one(of two) of my challengers a stretch on his layout:thumb: . (see pic #1)

I also gave my Milwaukee Road IHC Heavy Pacific a run:thumb: (see pic #2). Folks i am convinced the IHC Premier line of steam engines are the BEST cheap steamers on the market:winki: . dad and i BOTH have IHC Pacific's(he has a black Milwaukee Road), and these engines run GREAT for the money, and are very reliable. NOT great at slow take offs, but my Bachmann isn't either . with just a few add on detail parts these engines give you lots of bang for your bucks. DCC'ed i think they would run much better at slower speeds:winki: . JUST MY THOUGHTS:winki:

About two weeks ago i weathered a few of my cars up using JUST MY AIR BRUSH:winki: , i posted some of them in the last two WPF threads, here are a couple reefers i done up for dad(see reefer pics below). NOT award winning work by any means:toug:ops: , but at about 30 seconds per side, i think it gets the point across:winki::mrgreen: . just a quick and easy way i took some of his shinny new looking cars, and dirtied 'em up.

Hey UP SD-40-2: Those are great quickie weathering jobs, I'd do the same but since almost all CN boxcars are brown the weathering would probably be lost on them!
I couldn't agree more about the IHC Steamers, I have the Hudson and it's one of the best running steam engines I've seen for the price.

Hey Doc, what did you do for Stelco?

As little as possible. :-D:-D I spent most of my Stelco time at the USM (Universal Slabbing Mill). It was built in 1958, so it was only eight years old when I started there in 1966, and probably the best mill to work in. In those days, you didn't even start at the bottom - you started below that, in the "sewers". These were flumes that carried away the scale and scrap that dropped off during the ingot rolling process. From there, you went to the "pits" to "dig bottom". The "pits" were the soaking pits where the ingots were heated for rolling. The sides of them are visible in the photo, to the right. Scale and slag from this process built-up in the bottoms of these pits, and every so often they'd be shut down for "bottom digging", which was done with jackhammers. Hot and dirty! Eventually, you go on to learn as many of the production jobs as possible, as it helped your chances to stay on in the event of a lay-off. I ended-up as a "heater" and probably would have stayed on much longer if that mill hadn't closed down.

I'm glad to see that you've got a start on your GERN facility. I hope that you'll post some pictures of your progress in the GERN modellers thread in the Trackside Industries Forum.

Dean, nice to see those weathered reefers, although I was a bit taken aback to see all Santa Fe and no Pacific Fruit Express. :-D
Your IHC Pacific looks a lot like an old Rivarossi that I hacked-up for Mister Nutbar some years ago. It made into a decent model of a GTW heavy Pacific, although I don't think that he has it any more. My only IHC is this Mogul, which is a decent runner, 'though, as you say, a bit of a "jump" starter.

Here are some more "oldies". The 501 is a modified Bachmann Santa Fe Northern:

The diesel is an Atlas SD35 with a scratchbuilt safety cab. I did two SD35s and 2 SD24s, along with a Tyco C-630 like this. All were sold in the late-'70s, early-'80s.
