Doc, I have 2 questions.

1.) is GERN a publicly held company? I think I could use stock in a company as encompassing as GERN in my portfolio!

Well, it's public in the sense that anyone who'd like to have a GERN facility of some sort on their layout can own that part of it. :-D

and 2.) do you charge admission for tours to your layout?!? Holy cow you are a master at scenics.

Thanks for the kind words, George. However, I'm saddened to say that layout tours are much scarcer than I'd like: some elements of "upper management" frown upon such activities. Other than Mister Nutbar, whom I've known for over 30 years, any others from the Gauge who've had a tour were here on business - picking up a collection of magazines, or with projects that required my direct input.

Actually, yes I was. ops: I believe that it was because not enough good articles had been submitted, so they used one of mine to "flesh out" that particular issue. That was in February, 1980: an article in "Paint Shop" on painting TH&B Geeps. I haven't done anything worthwhile since then, although I think that my current interests are more suited to RMC.

Another product line that would be complimentary to the Anhydrous Hydrogen Oxide (is that monoxide or dioxide?) was devised in the Pogo comic strip many years ago. The one substance without which there would be no washday: D.I.R.T.* Just think of the possibilities: for every box of D.I.R.T. used, the housewife will need 3 boxes of Domestic grade Flux and a barrel of A.H.O.

You are right, I stand corrected. You are a true master craftsman. My wife asked me why I didn't want a subscription to RMC and I told her it's that I don't feel worthy of reading those articles and they make my simple layout look so inferior. I am learning though. Some day I hope achieve something close to that level, but I have got so much to learn.

I'm afraid that you've misunderstood me, George: I didn't mean to infer that I think I'm a craftsman, just that my interests and methods are probably too old-fashioned for the glossy efforts that MR is putting out these days. I'm just schlubbing along trying to get things done in my own low-tech way - mostly common sense, and tips and techniques picked up over the years. I think that the most important thing to remember is to keep learning, both from others and from just making a stab at things. There comes a point when we've analysed stuff long enough and it's time to "just do it". Oh, yeah, and remember to have fun while you're at it. :-D

One of the things that I like about RMC is that the people that work there, and the authors who write for them, all seem to be down-to-earth people who aren't too taken with themselves. Some are extremely talented modellers, but they're all willing to share their knowledge in a friendly manner - they neither talk down to the readers nor over their heads. Kinda like the folks here on the Gauge.
