Saw something on the Palmer Lake spur yesterday that looked like something out of a sci-fi film:

It's bright yellow and carries the UP herald, has a square structure on one end and a connection that almost looks like a crane attached to the frame of a streamlined section on the other end. The purpose of the connection is apparently to carry a lot of heavy gauge metal tubing for either electrical or hydraulics, or both.

I did get some quickie pictures, but I now have to start the painstaking process of learning how to upload them to a specified site and then somehow post them to this forum. My wife was going to show me the first part, after which I was going to track down the forum thread on the sedond part...but I'm still waiting patiently on the first part - getting the image from cellphone to upload site where it beocomes a managable image.

Meanwhile, bacjk at the ranch, maybe someone has a tiny clue about my incoherent description of this thing. Because of the yellow paint job, it appears to be an item of UP track maintenance equipment, but of all the stuff I have seen on the tracks over the years, I have never seen this particular item.
 
Hi...Can't you download them to your computer...?
From there you can attach them directly to a message by using the "Go Advanced" option, scroll down to "Manage Attachements", and picking "Upload file from your computer"..It's not as hard as it sounds...
Don't wait on the wife...It'll never happen.....:mrgreen:

Retrieving pictures from a cell phone -- at least the LG I have -- is so tortuous and complicated I did it once and swore (literally) "never again" ... and I'm a propeller-head. I love technology. But not this process...

somewhat, but much sleeker, and this one doesn't have the heavy arm-like attachment to the section "ahead".

Take this image, double the right hand part of the machine, add two heavy horizontal attachments on the sides that merge into a single heavy horizontal member that connects the roof right hand section to the roof of the left hand section, and that would be pretty close.

Mountain Man, I have mixed feelings on this one. On one hand, the suspense is killing me! On the other hand, as soon as you post pics someone will identify the machine and the rest of the interesting pics that are being posted will stop!
 
Well, if Mountain Man weren't such a Luddite, he'd have figured out his camera phone by now, and we'd know what he was talking about! :p :lol: sign1

I am not a "Luddite" - merely "technologically challenged", thank you very much. :rolleyes:

I apologize; however, my wife - who enjoys gadgets and technology - tried to show me how it worked using her phone - more bells, whistles and toys than mine has - and couldn't get it to happen. Frankly, I'm sorry I ever started this thread.
 
I'm glad you started it! I'm enjoying the "is it this?" guessing. Eventually some one is going to nail it down. I'll confess to being a partial Luddite although my wife is doing her best to pull me into the 21st century. :)

OK, perhaps Luddite was a bit harsh... just teasing. :) You do, after all, know how to get online and connect with people. :)

I'm not sorry you started it, I think this is fun. One of my favourite threads in another forum is "Mystery Aircraft"... a little easier to do than "Mystery trains" as far as finding stumpers, but more challenging to solve!
