How Many Model The Southwest?

I'm looking for info on the railroads of central Arizona.
Particularly the Peavine (AT&SF). the Prescott & Eastern, Bradshaw Mountain RR, United Verde and Pacific, Verde Tunnel and Smelter, Arizona Extension RR and the Hackberry RR.

maybe I'll take some new pictures tomorrow. I just have a small layout (3x6'). I model SE arizona narrow gauge - morenci/clifton area. I'm not true to prototype, I guess I am a "proto-lancer". And for Ray, check out the "railroads of arizona" series by Myrick (sp?). Most libraries in arizona have this series. Excellent.

Kevin, What gauge do you model?
I have seen a few of the 20" gauge Porters that ran in the Morenci/Clifton area.
One is at the Adobe Mountain RR park and the other is at the Mining and mineral Museum in Phoenix.
The Hackberry RR was also a 20" gauge RR that ran just south of here.

I am in hon3, with plans for an eventual 30" gauge, non-functional, feeder line. There were once three 3' gauge lines in the morenci/clifton area, the Magma Arizona was also once 3', and let's not forget the United Verde and Pacific. I would claim to be modeling all of those lines. I've also grown quite fond of the Uintah railway in colorado/utah - because I work near there now.

Ray John Olsen's Jerome and Southwestern project layout series that was in MR back in the mid to late 80's was heavily based on the Verde. He went to the area and did a lot of research and took a lot of pics both of which appeared in the series along with the model RR.

There was a railroad in Prescott? I spent many summers there in the 80's visiting my grandmother and never would have imagined a railroad being in that location.

I'll have to dig up those articles on the Jerome and Southwestern.
I plan to drive the old roadbed of the UV&P one of these days.
Unless you know where to look, you wouldn't know that any railroads existed in this area. They are all gone, but not forgotten.
The AT&SF (Peavine) ran right through Prescott.
Here are some links to some bits of info about some of the railroads in this area.

Most towns in the southwest were founded on railways, but as time went on they were slowly dismantled for more efficent routes.

great pictures, ray. they will come in handy as I add scenery. Looks like I am going to need lots of prickly pear, some centry plants, and a few juniper.

Ray, thanks for the photos and links.
