HO sidewalk thickness

I generally use .040" sheets of styrene, personally I prefer the 1/2 inch or 1/3 inch squares (real streets vary widely.) I use .060" square styrene for the curbs, using sandpaper to round the outside corner a bit.
Real sidewalks are typically 4" thick, which translate in HO scale to 0.0038' (.045") or 1.17 mm iffin my math is correct. Joint spacing is typically 10'-12' for construction joints and 4'-5' for score lines.

We have 6" curbs here. I was never any good at math so do not ask me to convert to millimeters.
One thing to remember and may not be clear to all is that the thickness of a sidewalk slab is not the same as the height of the curb.

You are correct. In N scale, I used .030" square styrene for my curbs, so my sidewalks are just as thick. In real life, sidwalks are poured 4" thick, but they are built up higher than the street with dirt and gravel. No one is going to know how thick your sidwalks are, just as long as they are even with the curb, that's what counts.babydot94513 said:
