How does one make Hardwood trees?

Hi Everyone,
Just need some ideas on how to make (from Scratch) some realistic looking "Aspen" or Birch Trees. HTML's would be GREATLY appreciated but NOT nec'sary.

iN MY OPINION, The most realistic looking trees are created in nature. Using dryed weeds and flower tops with WS ground foam is quick, cheap and easy....

1.) find a species of weed that looks like a tree. You may also clump three together for a larger tree.

2.) wrap some tape in spirals around the "trunk" to buit it up and/or hold your clump together

3.) spray paint it the color of the bark... Flat white for birch of course. If you study trees closely, most bark is not your basic brown, but shades of grey, black and tan... even greenish.

4.) while the paint is still wet, roll the top of the tree around in WS fine or medium green turf.

Drill pin hole in your scenery and plant when dry.

That's ONE way to do it.
 
Railway Modeller did an article a while back on building them both. They can also be made using florists wire and a hot glue gun

BLACK poly fiber....

Just wondering... Where can one actually purchase BLACK poly fiber. I have looked at WS website and they only carry Green. Any Suggestions?

Hi,

Check out "Gary Pfeil's Scratbuild" on this forum. The last couple of pages has a whole description on making trees which look really good!!! The rest of the scratchbuild is really awesome as well...!!!
