Thanks for the kind words I can see the completion date slipping I have managed to catch a cold and I can't see straight so I am leaving well alone at the moment. Sticking with big square boxes on Spruance.
This build has been amazing barry. Do you fancy doing a Invincible carrier to go with it. I am building the JSC Invincible 1/400 at the moment, it has been a nightmare.
At last I seem to have found a rigging material which looks to scale actually it's a tip from Jim Bauman I "borrowed" a pair of laddered tights from my wife should have bought her a black pair it turned out. Then it's a case of learning to pull threads from the "thick" knit at the top. It's suprisingly easy after a few trys you have to pull very steadily to get a good long length. Wind it onto a bit of spare card you now have enough rope for several thousand ships. It has some good properties when you snip to length it rolls itself up into an invisible little ball so no waving lighted fags around. It is incredibly strong in fact it is acting as guy ropes for the sagging gantries. Sticks well with a very small quantity of pva glue.
When the thread is not in tension it looks really fuzzy and useless for rigging
Caution tell the woman in your life what you want her old tights for otherwise you could get some very funny looks.
It leads to some interesting thought on ships rails asyou can pull it really tight and it is not obtrusive.
The pictures are not good difficult to get the lines to show up even in macro mode.
@Paul
There is a 1/200th model out at the moment and that looks better than anything I can do you might tempt me to do Bulwark after Tarawa.
Really looking good...glad you found a thread material you are happy with...although I pray you don't get in trouble taking the tops off of your wife's tights.:-o
Keep the updates coming, mate, we always love to see how this lady is coming along.
I wish I could do the railings on my 1/96 scale hms cornwall as fast as you can do them on this. I had to buy the 3 ball stantions from sirmar and I used telephone cable wire. But this model is for a different forum as it's not made from paper.
They may be small but they are important cos they are the LAST 2 pieces, probably to everyones relief. In spite of being small it took about 5 hours to get anything like a reasonable fit on the bow anchor and it is still a compromise.
Not even going to try for the gallery shots until I get a sunny day
I am trying to get my act together to publish some I was practicing on the Gearing class which is fairly simple to write up the other day who knows maybe I will succeed.
