Help me choose a color for my Blue Star Ready Mix Trucks?

Hi guys, i had this going in my shelf layout thread but i think i will get more of a by posting a new thread. As many of you might know, i have a 8' long cement plant i just built. My plans are to make a fleet of Cement Trucks, Dump Trucks, and Gravel Trucks for the plant and for use around my layout on the roads and construction sites. But i dont know what color to make the fleet?

I had this going in my other thread, some of you were saying to go with Blue. I was on board with this choice and Scott even posted this picture of a really cool blue on a train that i really really like: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphot...=248639&nseq=1

But this got me thinking and worrying that if i do the trucks in this color blue that the Blue Star in the Blue Star Ready Mix Logos will bot be able to be seen or be hard to see?

**NOTE**Pictures are blurry and extremely small, i have been assured that they print out crisp and clear by the custom decal maker. Cement Truck show in pictures above is of the undecorated version from Promotex....

So anyone have any ideas for colors for the trucks? I would love to paint them all the blue thats in the link above but would that interfere with the blue star in the logos?
 
Josh, blue would work if there is enough contrast. Don't make it the same shade of blue as the star in the logo. For instance, that dark blue truck in the last pic would work with your decals and there would be no problem with the logo disappearing because the blue is so much darker than the logo. What you might do is imagine that you just started work as the new ceo of Blue Star and one of the first things you need to do is update the look of the company trucks for better brand recognition. What color would you make the fleet?
 
Josh, I think that with the yellow background on the decals, having a blue truck (even the color of the star) would not be a problem. It would probably look pretty cool!:thumb::winker:

I did a google image search and found that cement trucks come in more colors than I ever recall actually seeing in person. So anything goes.

Here is a pic I found of a truck with a logo the same color as the rest of the truck...they solved that problem by putting a white band around the drum.....looks sharp!

Why not do a blue cab and chassis with a light grey drum on the mixers and on the dump boxes.

I do REALLY like the blues, both the ones that already on the trucks and the blue in the link, I just need to find a similar blue in Floquil.... paints...

I do like the idea of doing a band around the drum :mrgreen: thats something i will have to consider

I also really like plain old white cement trucks, easy to weather and make them look well used :thumb: :mrgreen:. Maybe white body with the blue band on the drum with the logos inside the band?
 
I've always wanted Spiral mixers. My current "project" company is called Inland Cement Contractors, and they run tan trucks with red drums, or red dumps. I'll be molding 4-5 separate companies, Blue Star was one idea, so I'll be interested to see what you choose.
 
Before I retired, I repaired a reefer unit on a trailer at the Yeager construction temporary batch plant at the Army Corp of Engineers Prado Damn project in Corona. I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly if they used owner/operators for the cement mixer trucks that ran from the batch plant to the damn, but I remember that they received the cement in bottom dump trailers pulled by owner operators. It seems the Cement mixers were also owner operators since I seem to remember different names on the cabs and different colors for the mixers as well. Mixing some owner operator rigs with your company trucks also allows for some more variety in your paint schemes.

Cool Russ :twisted: Thanks for the idea, that would be cool and give me a chance to do a couple different color schemes for the trucks :mrgreen: also gives me a few more options for names :thumb: :mrgreen:
