hello from forever-beginner modeller

Hello,

I come from Slovakia, and tried first models in the childhood - ever-failing but enthusiastic attempts with the "ABC" magazine released at the time in the country
(magazine actually still running live since the socialist czechoslovakia times in nineties-something...).

I am trying to return to the hobby for the "middle age" crisis period - that's in the range of 20-50 years for men, right? :)
My hope is to learn and hone the skills, as well as get some tips and recommendations for models managable by my current skill-set.

Welcome to zealot Dave. We have plenty of different models. What do you want to build?
Also if you start building a model pleade start a building thread we love pictures. Have fun here and if you have a quustion please ask us.

I have no specific "top" category, i have an itch for sailing ships, but most nice ones are above my current skill level...

I am playing around with "kid-like" 1-2 page models from Canon Creative Park web-page.
Their animals are nice and quick to build, almost as "disposables". I want to try Cutty Sark or similar from there, plus some famous architecture pieces.

I got few "easy" books as starter - "Make this Roman Fort" from Usborne, Harry Potter "Paper Models" - so really a mixture of anything that feels nice on the eyes and is not overcomplicated for my never-ending beginner level :)
(primarily because i cannot invest into long builds currently, and i prefer things that can be finished in few evenings tops)

Hello and welcome to Zealot!

You have found the right place to learn, improve and collaborate with the members here. As Michael said, we love to help. :)

If you have any pictures of your previous models feel free to post them here, please. Sailing ships are very challenging. The Canon models are GREAT for all modelers, beginners and "pros". They are very well desgined and produce lovely results. I have built a lot of them and gave them away as presents to dear friends. The models never failed their purpose. :)

The Harry Potter book sounds interesting. I would start with something easy to get the hang of it. Post your builds in the forum so that you can immediately benefit from our feedback. :)

Here are a few more links to nice free models:

Erh, well, IMO male papercrafters never grow up, so there is no such crisis at all. The only crisis we constantly face is to decide which model we want to build next. ;)

So, once again, welcome to the forum! Have fun and enjoy! :)

Hello Dave,

Welcome to Zealot! You have come to the right place for all things paper & cardstock, as well as model building as a whole, and to build and hone your skills.

Even though this site in in English, we have many members from all over the world. I lived in Bratislava for a few years as well as visited many other cities in Slovakia. I have to say that you have a very beautiful country!

By all means, please post photos of your work so that others can see what you do. You can post photos directly from your computer to the thread without the need of a photo hosting site.

When you start a new project, I would like to invite you to post build threads of your projects. Build threads are a great way to show off your skills and techniques, as well as to highlight problem areas that you may need help with or show how you were able to solve said problem.

So, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, need help or advice. Please feel free to ask and we will do what we can to help you (or at least point you in the right direction).

Once again, welcome aboard. I hope that you enjoy yourself here. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
