Soaring, I'm not sure why you're so keen? I'm curious as to why you're so interested in this model, yet in other threads you refer to it and say you won't be building it?

I don't understand.

Thanks. :) The other things that I'm concerned about is, Will these joint be strong enough to support the model given its size? I'd hate for someone to build this onlyto find that it sags or doesn't retain it's pose. ????

I suppose the solution there would be to style the model in a good pose, then glue the joints up. I'm really not sure at this point. I've decided to txture the arms first today. Then I'll build them and see how these joints start to work in practice.

This will probably be the only one I do with joints due to the time and effort required for them.
 
Having designed joints is such a good thing in the regards that one can build it in whatever pose they want instead of the typical arms to teh sides and standing more or less as attention :P

True. I'm not saying "Never" to joints again in the future. I'm just thinking that the cons maybe outweighing the pros.

We won't know for sure until I test them out I suppose. :)

yeah, the legs joints must be strong and 'hard' to sustain it.
My articulated SD F91 continued to fall on his back until I put some little pieces of matte paper in the middle of its articulations!
 
Yeah, I was thinking the joints may need stiffening with a layer os masking tape or something. Try to retain the flexibility and increase the friction to try and prevent looseness.

I'll check for this problem once I've coloured and detailed the arms. I'll then build them and test them.
 
How about backing the joint with a spring inside, e.g. from a ball-pen? This might guarantee a tight joint...

LOL. I'm not entering the comp anymore. Difference of opinion between myself and another competitor. I'm cool with it though, takes any pressure off. :)

I have no idea how these gundam things go together, I have no skill in model design, least of all poseable models.... but I thought i'd throw a few ideas into the "poseable joints" discussion.

I should also add I have no idea what your joints look like or if my ideas would apply to them...

Basically, both my ideas work together, one or both might do the trick, or neither will work at all... :D

Also they involve using rubber, not paper.

What if you were to add rubber "gaskets" or something to each half of the moving joint, so that it could move, but the friction/grip from the rubber would stop the model from collapsing on it's own weight. I'm talking something like the rubber they make household and surgical gloves out of, with the "slippery" powder removed of course.

If that didn't hold itself together well enough to grip, how about using rubber bands inside the parts themselves, or the ballpoint pen spring as Lex mentioned earlier?

Not sure if I explained it properly or not, but if you're interested in the idea I could try to draw something up to explain it a bit better.

Just thought I'd share that before it gets buried in that dark corner of my mind where all the things the Mrs wants me to do go to be forgotten about. :D

Please take no offense here buddy, as I don't mean any. :)

Why do you keep stating you won't build my model? I don't expect everyone to. I'm designing it because I want to not because I want or expect everyone to build it. You say you'r building a GP03 but that it isn't mine??? Is there another GP03 model I don't know about? Or are you referring to the GP03 Orchis? There is a papermodel of that already.

Like I said no offense, I just don't get your drift sometimes.

Anyway, good ideas Jaffro. I was thining of insulating tape. It's rubber, adhesive and could help increase the friction. Plus being tape, you just wrap as many layer around the jointpin as you need to get the tightness you need.

Hmm....Was it the fourth line that said I won't build it? Actually, I meant : While you're still in the texturing phase, I'm going to build the OTHER GP-03 :) I like to compare things xD

From the looks of the templates and your design, your's beats it by a longshot.
-It = the Other GP-03 I found
-Yours = Your GP-03 Stamen

Sorry about the confusion ;)
 
Another Stamen? That's new to me. I generally don't design a model that's been done before.

Could you post a link or a pic of this model?
