Greetings
Why ask why? Some of will, no doubt say I should start oiff with a newer drivetrain, but here goes!
Bear loco co./Hobbytown drives appeal to me for some reasons, and will purchase some soon. The gearing style is noisy by todays standards. To me this may be the only drawback! How would some of you tackle this issue?

Not much can be done to reduce the noise of these geartrains. If performance is acceptable-great, maybe the noise is worth it. I prefer quiet running, and have gone to some extremes to get quiet running. But then....that's me.

I've seen in some of your previous posts that these parts are where you find them. Automotive shaft seals often contain springs like you mentioned. Pulleys--old tape decks.vcrs and the like . I've also considerd "o" rings.
This is getting good!
