Futuristic Train Modeling

After see Tyson Rayles post about train tracks on the new space station, the question comes to mind has anyone thought about building train models of some of the more exotic transportation ideas engineers are coming out with. One example would be the train levitated off the ground using magnets for the smoothest possible ride. Naturally all of this would all be custom, no mail order kits for these babies.

It also seem to me, a scale model could test these ideas, since everything can't be accurately simulated on a computer. Simulations are only as good as the software that runs them. And if it's a microsoft logo on the software, I have no conidence in it.

Yeh, but a scale model is only as good as the model itself, as well as the model environment. e pluribus unum.

Speaking as a futurist though, that would be very interesting to me. Perhaps after I get a better handle on my modeling talents, perhaps I'll work on something one winter.

As a rule all concepts are tried out as models first. Mock-ups as small as 1:150 for presentations and then starting at 1/8 for trial runs and gradualy increasing to 1:1 scale for the prototype runs. Why do you think those military planes are so expensive?
