Well just to add something new to Zealot (which I havent been to for a longer time now - shame on me ;) ) I thouhgt I share a bit oy ma other hobby - RC modeling.

As I was in England this cear in June to fly models for a Battle of Britain documentation which was aired in September (Battle of Britain Model Squadron on channel 4) I got completely hooked by FPV flying so I started a bit of business and built some FPV testbeds. One of which is the Viperjet. A foamie (which I normally dont fly as I dislike the material a bit ;)) available at WeMoTec in Germany.

I just added some FPV gear including headtracking and had a bit of fun.

here is the Video of the maiden flight :

If there are some questions just feel free to ask and if you want just subscribe to my channel :)

BTW here is the plane I flew in england and whit which it all started :)

A Black Horse Heinkel 111. What a marvellous view it is out of the cockpit:


The slight jello is because of unbalanced spinners which will be changed soon.

And before I forget it: Merry Christmas to all of you out there!

I am glad to see you back.

The videos look GREAT! I remember when RC first started. I had a few friends that were really into it. I asked them if it was possible to put a camera on one of the vehicles. They responded with a resounding "NO"! Their explanation was "It is impossible to do so, because cameras are too heavy and the RC vehicle could not carry such weight. Granted, they had a point for the time. However, I find it very interesting that cameras are small enough now that it is now possible to put cameras in RC vehicles.

O.K.!! So are you "Padlocking" or "Panning" the camera with VR Goggles or by joystick? I wonder how many people realize how awesome these videos are. The visibility in the Heinkel scares me with that dashboard taking up the front top view, but the bottom view is incredible. I think the real ones had the same problem, which is why they were shot down so easily, but it must have been a blast to fly!! Incredible!! :)

I am panning the view with a headtracker in the goggles. Sitting in a chair while flying and using my head to look around. The Heinkel view is not that bad when you get used to. To be honest I never flew the Heinkel via FPV because I need some more training with planes with undercarriage. Plus I do not want to break the model since it (and me :D) was part of a TV show and therefore has a personal value for me. I did some "passenger flights" though. People on the airfield enjoy themselves to have a view out of the plane when I am flying it :)

You are light years ahead of anyone I know!! Excellent videos!! :)

That is AMAZING! You have taken this whole hobby to another level. Interestingly, I have always thought that this sort of thing could be done. However, those that I have talked to the possibilities of doing such have all told me that it is IMPOSSIBLE! Thank you for confirming what I have always thought.
This is another example that proves my signature to be true, "If it can be thought of, it can be done". Granted, it may not be possible today, tomorrow, or even a year from now, but the possibilities are still there.

If you ever have the chance to view the british channel4 on demand, besure to watch Battle of Britain Model Squadron. This is what we did in summer 2018 :D Ant his ist what hooked me up to FLV flying :)

here is another vid edited by John Lancaster, one of the FPV staff guys at our reunion meeting in september in England ;)

Yeeees, I am that ugly bearded guy flying this thing taking John on a joyride in the plane. I am flying line of sight and John wears the goggles and had a blast as my "navigator" :)

Footnote: I am by way not the first person to do FPV flights but I got completely hooked up and try some new things for me :)

Thank you guys. We had loads of fun :D
Plus: We did things that no one has ever tried before... In the last episode there were 32 model airplanes launched from 2 seperate airflieds up in the air in a big dogfight with He 111 circling the skies and flying though the combat zone whilst Bf 110, Bf 109 fight versus Spitfires and Hurricanes... That was very intense :) God I would do this again within a blink of an eye :D

I've always wanted to pilot one of those. You should have quite the panoramic view! :)

I flew a Piper Warrior in the rain a few times. The propeller did not like it much a all! I do have to admit the prop eliminated the need for windshield wipers. :)
