Being a native of Southern California, I am fortunate to almost always have great weather to railfan by. Example this Winter/Feb of 1984 picture, taken of an SP TOFC going eastbound through San Timeteo Canyon on the Sunset Route. Nice sunny and warm, typical SoCal day! 
Whereas one of the rare times I railfanned out of state, I ran into miserably cold and wet weather near Kansas City, MO at this MoPac yard, Dec 1981. This kind of weather should make one stay at home and read a good book rather then chase trains
