Hi folks - here's the plan (thanks to Dean aka UP SD40-2 for the great idea).

Let's see your engines!!!!! :D :D

Each week we will feature a different engine category and post photo's of our models or our prototype pix. Anyone is free to start the thread and whoever starts it gets to pick the category. Other than that, the only rule is that the photo's must be your own.

Since I've been elected to start the thread my pick for this week is diesel switchers. So - let's see your SW1200s, your S3s, your road switchers. I know there's lot's out there.

I'll get the ball rolling with this Canadian National RS10. :wave:

Looks like great minds run along the same track.:D It just happens that this month's photo contest is all about locos and engines as well. I hope this thead will inspire everyone to also enter the photo contest.:wave: And I also hope the photo contest will inspire everyone to post in this thread as well.:thumb: :thumb:

I will start with a prototype photo, I took it in Winnipeg in 1997. It's a poor scan, watching the trains and engines there made me more confident in modelling north american railroads. Far on the right were the CP(?) shops in Winnipeg and a lot of Soo engines.

Well, this single thread should use up just about all of my diesel photos. :rolleyes: My apologies for not having any new pictures to post.:cry:

From my favourite prototype road, a couple of Geeps. The 403 is a GP-9, while sister 76 is a GP-7. Both models are modified Athearns, detailed to match their prototypes, and are equipped with can motors.

More modified Athearns: these switchers, which Athearn used to market as SW1500s, have been converted to SW1200RSs, a common Canadian prototype. All four in service have been remotored and have had extra weight added.

And yet another Athearn "SW1500", this one modified as an NW-2. She also sports a can motor, along with pick-up shoes and a full cab interior. The old girl has also been regeared for slow-speed switching and has had weight added for better pulling power.

These RS-11s are from two different manufacturers. 602 and 604 are from LifeLike (Proto-no-thousand), and have been extensively modified, including removal of the motor powering a single truck. Both are now dummies. The 606 and 608 are both from Atlas, and are little modified.

Another Alco from Atlas, this time an S-4 switcher. She's seen here picking up a scale test car from one of the table tracks at Lowbanks. From the looks of that bell, somebody reached a little too far into the silo track at GERN Industries.:D

Finally, to close out my contribution, three more Athearns, formerly U33Cs. I've redesignated them U36HTs (for High Tractive effort), as all have been equipped with two Mashima can motors each and have been ballasted to just over 33 ounces. Each one has a measured drawbar pull of 8.3 ounces.

Nice to see you guys have started a loco of the week here on the gauge. We have been doing this for the last 3 months and it is a lot of fun to see all the work of the others and what everyone has. Keep them coming
 
My lighting always looks goofy and I have no idea what this little engine is (44 tonner maybe?), but here it is.

Thanks Doc. I was inspired to model this loco when I saw a photo of it in a NYC book. Very unusual to see a grey NYC switcher. I used a Walthers loco of course, removed the horn and added the air whistle over the plated over windows. They sure did put the road # on it a lot of times! Had to use two decal sets. I added a TCS decoder, the smallest I was aware of, it was still a tight fit. Here's the photo in the bbok, and one I staged to look somewhat like it. I don't have a black NYC unit so used an Erie.
