Do any retailers sell hydrocal?

Hydrocal is not usually carried by craft stores or the "big box" home centers as far as I know. I get it in So Cal from a company called Laguna Clay that sells potters supplies, wheels, kilns, etc. I've also seen it sold at building supply companies that specialise in brick, stone, and various types of plaster and stucco, and mortar mixes.

Try "floor leveler" at Lowe's or Home Depot. It comes in sizes from a pint to 25 lbs. It is Hydrocal or and equivalent.

One trade name for hydrocal is Fixall. Hoedepot and lowes do carry the stuff. Another thing to ask for is hotmud. It is used as a first coat for drywall. If you ask for hydrocal they may not know what you are asking for.

Thanks for the help/replies. This website is a wealth of information. I will let you know what I buy and how it works out. (Still waiting for a reply on how many gallons I need to cover 50 sqaure feet. I don't expect that it would be over a 1/4 inch thick)

I've never heard of hydrocal sold in gallons. I buy it in 100 pound bags. I think less than 25 lbs would do it.
